Naw Carter is all ready being adequately punished for his idealism. He's building homes for poor people. As long as he's kept out of politics, we are doing great!

Xeno,

Concede it. You have been owned by Zarf. We won't think less of you for having humility.

That's because we need an autocrat. Whenever someone wants to make the country better, the unions start to cry.

In my view, a philosophy is nonsense if it does not accommodate empirical facts, is not logically consistent, and is not written clearly. Philosophy becomes nonsense when we talk about things like monads with Leibniz, or just about anything with the continentals who cater to a popular audience, say ambiguous things to sound profound, but really say something meaningless like "truth is a terrorist." A lot of the philosophers on the continent of Europe offer meaningless philosophies, Hegel especially.

Sadly the Analytic tradition is fast becoming BS too.

It is also a similar case with politics. Realpolitik or political realism is very useful and it comports to empirical facts, but it really isn't as popular as the field of normative politics. Second, most empirical politics is done with polls and statistics, and there's no concern with an underlying theory behind it.

That's the wonder of a constitutional republic: the protection of minorities.

Ancient Athens was sickening. Citizens getting killed for no legitimate reason by vote.

Not happy Bachmann was relected though, but at least she's better than Tink.

BW,

You know, the economy of the European Union is $3 trillion stronger than the US, and in a few decades they could compete or even overpower us if left to fend for themselves. It's a good thing they have their entitlement and dependent culture, because if they didn't you know bloody well the Roman Empire would return somewhere down the road.

Lets discuss and debate our positions on abortion now.

My opinion is that abortion should be legal, because despite its moral or emotional costs there would be immense physical costs in terms of finances and public order if it were to be outlawed. It has nothing do with the right to choose because I think rights can not be empirically tested, but simply that abortion serves as a very instrumental function as a means of population control.

Maybe Skoe's right. Bush had a 1 in 99999 chance of stopping the violence in the middle east. I'll give it to you that Obama has a 2 in 99999 chance.

Lol there are intelligent Republicans, it's just that the ones nominated for president have been intellectually inferior as of late. Lincoln, Hoover and Coolidge were brilliant politicians, for example. Hoover's problem was that he was like "oh the economy will recover by itself" while appearing apathetic.

And, conservatives have produced the most brilliant politicians, politicians that liberals never matched. Examples are Metternich, Bismarck, and Kissinger.

There are muslims on my university, and I see nothing wrong with them. Some of their women are also a little "relaxed." smile However, I have also noticed that those muslims are from upper middle class families, one girl for example lived in an expensive neighborhood not far from Mecca.

I think it's in the case of every society, that the poor are the criminals and terrorists taking out the frustration of their stupidity on everyone else. The poor in America have an entitlement culture, are in to hip hop, and are violence prone. The same is true of the poor in the muslim communities, and every community of poor people in the world.

Who cares if civilians die? It's a casualty unlikely be avoided, only minimized. The only kind of civilian deaths you should concern yourself with are the ones that involve organization and intentionality that serve no strategic military purpose.

Hey man, just saying that you're vulnerable to a woman tearing you apart if you lose perspective.

Arocalex,

"
You know what that crazy gamble is? Life, as it should be, the excitment, the love. Passion, you will never truly feel it. Because love is beyond what you can phantom. Let me tell you it is worth it. Looking at your love and feeling those endorfins pump through your brain is pure win. Although the breaking up is bad."

Life is no gamble, it's the choices we make in life that are gambles. Life is a just a sea of options, and gambles are an option we can choose to make. As for love, it's just a flooding of pleasure causing chemicals.
