i don't give a flush
My opinions could not be described in 2 words. Maybe a page or 2 will give you some idee. So I don't have a red line wich to folow. That also answeres your 2 question.
I've switched pov about differen cases but I think it does not aply to what you mean.
My parents and I are completely different on numberous issues.
My friends, even the more political ones vary from left to right all over. Conservative, progressive, anarcho, authoritarian, catholic, atheist, nationalists, libertarians, etc etc.... all the colours of the rainbow. I couldn't really pick one that is predominant.
its not a new cold war yet. And it might not come that far. But its in the air so to speak.
I told you mods it was going to spread. Obamathread number X
"Little Paul, if you want a politics debate, don't ask an economic question that has an economic solution."
that was ofcourse, because i.m.o. it was a political statement rather then an economical one. But ofcourse then, feel free to debate about the issue wheter or not this is the fact.
"Every world leader and central banker in many economic forums have said that the economic situation in the USA has played a part in the world economy, so it would not be right to see Medvedev different in this just because he is Russian."
He happened to be russias new face to the world. Thats a big difference with a central bank employee. Other world leaders is a better argument. Can you deliver me quotes/links? Not that I don't believe you but if the context and way of saying is entirely different it might be important.
""And if he is being political, why would he "preach to the converted" at a forum of Russian financial and economic elite? If anything, it is a not so subtle reminder that the economic troubles are of shore and should be no barrier to domestic investment. Propaganda yes, but not saber rattling type everyone thinks it is."
A lot of big multinationals were present and a whole load of people with diplomatic ties. Not russians alone.
@wfs,
just in case you ever become a full mod, I want to be an imperial wathever without the thever and add ste collector. Or just imperially paid will do.
why do I get something with cheerleaders if I put yell into wikipedia?
"then i think you are paranoid"

he visits berlin. He warns that further expension of the nato could damage the relationships between europe and russia. Merkel was surprisingly soft, while before she was often very firm about the violation of human rights. That has to do with the giant amounts of gas russia delivers at germany and other european countries.

The russian gov sais georgia increases the tension with Abchazia on purpous by sending airplanes to the "fobidden zone" ->above abchazia. Moskou sais that georgia is preparing a military operation against abchazia en sends more soldiers to the region to "protect their own civilians" in case of a conflict.
*do 20/03/08 Russias secret service has arrested a member of the oil groop TNK-BP and a membert of the british council. Another big energy compagny they lay their hand on. Its their main strategic weapon so no coincidence I think.
*ma 03/03/08 -
The russian gascompany GAZPROM has decreased its gaz input to the Oekrain with 1/4th. The start of another long energy war. Just like 2 years ago.
*the cyberattack on Estland 5-2007
not starting about kosovo, the relationship with england, belarus, Chechnya etc etc
freelancer, it doesn't matter much if he sais the truth or not because he has nobody to answere to except the russian top. Somehow I got the feeling they don't care all that much about the truth
tpiddy,
Nothing personal but as I said: "Please don't turn this into another US-econ debate." I respect your opinion but one line should be sufficiant to use it as an argument so the second and third paragraphs are offtopic. That would still be ok if it were not for those numerous offtopic replies we can expect.
"Otherwise, none of this should be shocking or controversial, we know it has happened and it helps no one being revisionists just because it was said by someone who we don't like."
Its not about WHAT he sais, its about WHY he sais it. At that level they usually plan what they are going to make public. So the top of the russian powerhouse has intrests in saying so. Else they wouldn't.
"He prevented Hillary from becoming president."
LOL.
@all
It spreads to slow to be a virus, yet to fast to be an original toppic. My conclusion: its multitopic spam.
@yell:
please close this thread before they all start making an obama or mccain thread.
@avo
don't complain yet, imagine everybody starting their own obama and mcCain thread.
Not because of this single act freelancer. We've had numerous threads about russia in this forum before.
"The us causes the worldwide financial crisis." Dmitri Medvedev sais this during an economic forum in Sint-petersburg. Till now one could argue tha anti-us statements are propaganda mostly. But an economic forum isn't the best place for propaganda of this kind. With the current demand for food and energy recources, they feel like they have a strong possition and say that out loud. While they used to deny this in foreign diplomacy.
I think its major stupidity to have an other cold war. Even if the temperature isn't all that high. If they are going up that train again they could loose all potential they have now. Question is, how long will the russian totalitarian regime survive without a big enemy as a propaganda tool? If they turned democratic, there would be no need for this.
Also I think the EU is far to forgiving for russias agressive politics.
Please don't turn this into another US-econ debate. You're free to debate it, but it will make this thread go off-toppic. What I want to debate is the foreign policy of russia and more specific towards the EU and the US.
Fmods please. New obama threads should be closed untill the last one is from the top of the front page.
[A worthy and logical appeal that is honored in other threads but -I- am not going to follow for the following reasons:
1. Politics is more personal and tied to our self-indentity and such repression of expression would seriously offend
2. Glad's optimist view of Obama is a substantive opposite to DD's mistrust and will lead to different conversations.
3. We often see two or three pairs arguing at once in the same thread and fewer threads would mean chaotic babble.
4. Fmods like Politics full of politics. Having many facets of the same jewel seems more a blessing than a curse.
5. I'm already a total asshat about flaming and cussing!]
and you admit that outfront ![]()
Its a good thinking excercise fool but unworkable. Maybe its a coincidence but I see you moving towards a direct democracy with every step.(correct me if I'm wrong) Maybe one day it would be affordable to have a system that comes close to it but I think not right now. I don't deny the huge benefits.
Youfool:
"How about the concept (horribly complicated and unworkable as it is) of giving each citizen their share of the MPs salary and allowing them to distribute it as they see fit. This takes away the bad part of the scheme where people only listen to the rich."
ok but as you said, its unworkable. Ever considered the cost and corruption it would bring forth?
"How honest would politicians become if their every action would have an immediate consequence, "
Or how dishonest when they have to make an impopular decision. Or a decision wich pays itself back in 4 years.
should everyone have its own obamaVSmcCain thread?
Achma is talking propaganda for his own man. Like usual. Often even in foreign diplomatics.
its not a matter of having a voice or an certain amount of input. A democracy is a control system.
With all the oil they have,I'm convinced they can acchieve an open market high level democracy.(education, middle class included). I see one main problem for iraq and that is 3 ethnic groops hating each other. That is the biggest problem. The second in line is their neighbooring countries having intrests there.
The first problem can be partly solved by a good "splitting up". I abandon one my first thought of having 3 different countries because of DPS good argument neighbooring countries pressure. But 3 regions with a certain state of autonomy is still worth the disadvantages in my eyes.
