...plain vanilla ice

"The corporations, not the individuals made money."
That is as stupid as saying "I'm not earning money, my bank account is."

"So why should individuals have to pay when the corporations reaped the benefits?"
A corporation only exists virtually, its not a real person. But the persons who control it, are real, and responsible.

"Besides, under U.S. law, a corporation is a person."
Those laws are pragmatic laws not made by god. (spoken as an atheist, maybe our opinion differs). But that's what I meant when I said "impossible."

"Tell me how do you "lose" 500 WMD's????? Which other nation on Earth has even allowed 100 wmd's to not be found"
Depending on what WMD you're talking about, the amount of devices lost in WW2 or even afhganistan can tip it. But its not the amount alone that matters.

"who want a fair world which never existed and never will."
I'm not a leftish but as a comment, its the only option for survival of humankind. Its the only option but I don't believe in it so I think human race is destined to die out.

Define "work" and "universal healthcare" and we can start a debate. Because the Nkorea regime "works" too but I don't want to live there or have such a system elswhere if you see my point.

Not the companies or gov but the ones who ordered it inside those companies. Otherwise you let someone else pay for what they did not do. I know its impossible but that's how it should be.

"Or on an almost impossible occurence we could have a benevolent and wise and well-organized (but room for flexibility) dictator ruling each country.
Tht would be even more beneficial for the majority of its citizens. "
You mean dictators. The S is important here because no-one rules alone. The biggest problem is not finding a good dictator, the problem is keeping it that way. Next to a whole lot of other problems inherent to a dictatorship.

Anyway, I'm not going into that discussion again. Going to read maces post tommorow.

"Oppression of the majority?
Sheesh, you'll NEVER please EVERYONE all the time.
In fact, rarely ever."
That is my opinion exactly, witch is why it is primarily a control system. A pragmatic system I confess, but one that brings forth both the highest production/progress and ideals of human rights.

"1)  when everybody has a voice by being given the option to vote on a leader then that leader has to do what the majority voted him/her in for"
its called oppresion of majority. Even a pro-democratic system like me does not deny that.

"2)  when everybody has a voice by being given the option to vote on a leader then that leader can do whatever he/she wants since the majority trust (or at the very least, distrust him/her less than the other voting options) him/her to do what he/she thinks is best for them"
Now you are talking about the control system right? Let me get this straight: if you trust a politician you are out of your mind unless you know the guy personally.:p

I started about 2 weeks ago to install linux with gnome layout as a complete virgin. As I plan to spend more time in it, I wondered how big the IC-linux comunity really is.

Also, as Gnome is mostly GUI Based I wonder if I miss anything.

I wonder why."
Me too yikes. Anyway, I gave it a good shot, even if I only posted only half of it today.

For me, russia is no democracy. Its not even partly democratic. Even if the current gov has a lot of support.

Here goes my view upon democracy:
You have as many definitions of a democracy as there are people, but you can devide the lot in 2 big categories.
1.) Its a control system
2.) the "everybody has a voice" ideal
Most definitions have a mix of those 2.

I however, see a democracy as a control system 100%. Even a direct democracy still only reflects the voice of the majority. A despotism the voice of a few. An anarchy, the voice of the strongest. Then why do I advocate a democracy? Because its control system functions. Despite popular believe a good democratic control system actually decreases corruption. And here comes the core of my story, the things you need for a good democratic control system:
*Free ellections:
-Well informed citizens
->free (or objective) media
->educated citizens
-possibility to compete
->no repression of political oponents
->freedom of speech
->honest voting process
-universal suffrage (not going into detail)
->guarantee to vote in safety

*devision of the 3 powers

I'll post the rest tomorow.

Some people on this forum claim russia is a democracy others claim its not.(like me tongue)
There are also different opinions about wheter putin was ellected democraticly or not.

I think this discussion diserves its own thread.

Important in this discussion I think is the definition of a democracy and democratic ellections. I'm going to type a post about it later. Till then feel free to ellaborate.

As a sidenote: The idee to start this thread came from a discusion I had with fokker but this thread isn't ment to be an extension of that or even personal in any way.

hmm

"Sory for the engrish. If you don't understand something, I'll try again happily."
I talk engrish myself as it is my fourth language. When I said you make a lot of sence, it wasn't ment ironic.

"As for Romney, I do think he would have appeared as a perfect target for the "more of the same" attack"
he had very conservative points compered to McCain.

"plus all the nice things you can recycle from the primaries."
thats true idd.

@golk:
you make a lot of sence.

@yell:
I think its a good strategy to pick a conservative, and yes the women-vote is gonna convice some. But Mitt Romney would have had even more effect with the conservatives and ok the women vote but he would have been a charismatic vice and not just some side-kick. And a much better vice overal...

why not Romney? hmm
