A democracy has costs and gains. But they could neither pay the costs or fill in the requirements for such a system to work at the time.

The costs are simply to high for a regime that already needs over 90% of its people to work as a farmer simply to feed its population.

Next to that: education, media and a more or less controllable voting system are a few out of many keywords you need.

As you can see I did not explain it in full as I recon you are smart enough to get the bigger picture. (No offense, but I can't understand you even asked. Is it really IA I'm talking to?)

...that those systems did not work in the past in the circumstances of the time.

...so hard? Somalian pirates captured a Saudi oil tanker of 330 meters long worth 2 million barrels=1/4 of the daily production of whole SA or 107.520.000$ or 85.047.446

lol skoe, for a minute there I was thinking you were serious....and yes I lack some sleep tongue

Anyway, I'll respond serious. Democracy might be overrated by some, but is never the less potentially the best system still, despite its huge flaws.

I agree with most here...let gm go br if it has to. If it gets split up it only means more competition.

Justinian:
"Who cares if civilians die?"
thats an easy one...
1.)Public opinion in own country
2.)Public opinion in foreign countries
3.)Public opinion in the country of conflict
4.)the armies fighting the war
So yes, they try to avoid them. That is not the question. This debate is about how much that is a priority and where the line should be drawn. About that issue people are divided here. I'm somewhere in the middle. I was against the use of cluster bombs, but I don't think the US army can avoid those casualties described above. No army can.

I can't grasp how some people even question the value of a democratic system. Despite its large flaws there is no other system that is better. Churchill was right in what he said about that.

not again... *SIGH*
between 40-30% of the dutchies is against it. An important majority. Enough to start a party only based on that (look to nva). Only about 30-40% of the flamish is for it. Maybe enough to start a meaningless movement.

Go for more EU dubba. What you propose would mainly cost money and bring forth a mess and unhappy populations.

It seems obvious if you know it out front. You would be surprised to see how many even very intelligent people fall into such a trap. But its a major non the less. big_smile

@twisted:
With no insult meant to you, but I think its rather your girl/wife you show disrespect by comparing here to pirate day.

To the subject; I've seen people complaining about less. It feels like having a bug but then for a whole day or more and it keeps coming back. Its annoying.
