Is there any proove you actually have a positive energy balance out of biofuels? Because even 2:1 on production level wouldn't necessarely make it a positive ROEI. Think about the energy cost to distribute it etc etc
I'm in favor of neither part atm, esp after the candidate of the reps became clear, but if I would want to vote out clinton its because I don't want the 0,00001% chance she could win.

Despite the fact its half-true, thats only theory. I say half true cause there are only a few big operating systems, especially for home users.
The reality is most computers are bought together with microsoft windows and often office. With windows comes Internet explorer, mediaplayer,lightweight text-editors, etc etc. The list goes on endlessly.
A lot of softwareproducts are made for windows only, because of their monopoly. Not only that, but also the hardware and their software is adjusted to windows instead of the other way around. Next to that you have compatibility problems and the fact most people still need to learn to work with microsoft products elswhere despite of what else they use at home.

As PVP pointed out, microsoft is a nice example. They have to pay large amounts of fee to all kind of businesses and institutions each year but it is still profitable because their monopoly is very effective.
maybe wait a little with the free-trade debate. Me and the other paul automaticly vomit every time we read the word alone.
I think one of the major problems of tomorows economy will be the forming of monopolies. There are rules and institutions in the western world to prevent this, and they do work, but some compagnies seem to find a hole. After all, it is very difficult to make good laws for this particular issue. Considering the amount of money involved, the risk for corruption is rather high.
Personally I don't see a simple answere to this problem. But it is a real threat.
There is one exception were you create a problem with a simple sollution. Sometimes when big gov institutions got privatised, they have a large chance of having a monopoly in a certain market. In this particular case, they can split it up and make sure it gets devided between enough different parties. For most other cases though, its far more difficult.
Please don't turn this into a tax debate unless it really has to do with it. There are enough other threads about that.
