Orwell was an old school Lefty who thought all human endeavor was the economy. Mr Jones farms wheat for sale, Mrs jones grow vegetables for the table, they sell them in town and pay rent for their stall, they buy gas for their tractor, they tithe to the church. All that is economic, its all the production and distribution of wealth.

And what Marx was on about was, politics is indistinguishable from the system of production and distribution. There have been government systems where Jones would not own the land he plowed or the crop he raised. Maybe he is an unpaid serf or a state worker or an entrprenuer or a landlord himself. But its all tied to the crop and his labor. Even the church in town demanding a tithe, said Marx, was founded on an economic system where folks had something to tithe.

And Marx said there was a progression of systems from anarchy to feudalism to capitalism to socialism to communism. The progression was inevitable and called "praxis"

By Orwell's time the Left was arguing how to further praxis. And Orwell drew a line between people who wanted to help praxis and people futilely struggling against it. So that's the basis for saying everything is political; either you were for praxis or you were against it. Saying you were neutral was a hostile political act.

Yell: That seems completly different to what I understood Orwell's position to be, as he seemed very much against communism, or at least the communistic nations that had popped up, which for arguments sake we shall allow to be labbelled communist.
