Yes, I do.  If cost of doing business, taxes included, just get passed down to the consumer... you're outright admitting that the tax would become a tax on consumers, then?

Yeah... because Western Europe is definitely the region of the world known for its great pro-business tax structure today!  tongue

Not to mention, "finite" is a moot point when the definition of "finite" is "will last 5 billion years, but afterwards is nonrenewable," such as with sunlight.  You have to distinguish between short-term finite resources, such as oil, and resources which are finite, but finite in such a way that their date of expiration is so far away that normal societal advancement would render the limitation useless (i.e., if we believe humans will colonize other solar systems in 50,000 years, we don't need to give a crap about the Sun's limited lifespan).

And I fed a troll by... asking xeno to clarify his justification behind an incomplete argument?

Okay, I should clarify.  I'm agreeing with the theoretical concept of economies of scale, not necessarily that economies of scale would make the prices equivalent.  We don't really know the cost of raw materials (whether plastic is cheaper than metal) or the cost of manufacturing (it could be more expensive, for example, to heat metal into a malleable form than it would be to mold plastic).  Regardless, I'm still sitting this one out.

Except then you would have to show that the aliens could interact with items which, according to Einsteinian physics, would not be in the same location that you perceive them to be (i.e., if I am 40,000 light-years away from you, even if I see you, I am seeing light which was emitted 40,000 years ago).  So if I wanted to put a crop circle in a farm, without actually being in the vicinity of the crop circle, I would need a way to know exactly where a farm would be, knowing full well that what I could see of the planet was a lie, and in fact was 40,000 years old.  I would literally be viewing an earth in the middle of the Ice Age, and trying to guess where agriculture is likely to start up.  tongue

Care to explain why this is the case?  Not that I disagree with you.  Just want to get your reasoning on this one.

Point proven.  Anyone can be considered a fanatic, so the term is arbitrary.  tongue

But government is, by definition, a restriction of individual freedoms.  Any act, whether it be a new tax, a new regulation, law, etc., is a form of removal of freedoms.  This would justify just about any person being considered a "fanatic" except the outright anarchist.

I disagree with that statement.  Wait, I mean... yikes

Actually, V.Kemp highlights one interesting problem that I was going to note: What is a fanatic?

Justinian, your definition of "fanatic" is very distinct from V.Kemp's definition, which is different from my definition, which is different from xeno's definition.

Often, as individual, we can group the categories of "opponent" and "fanatic" to a point where, if following a Justinian interpretation of the world, we would be no better than the worst of dictators because "fanatic" simply translates into "anyone who disagrees with us."

So before you all go on, here's a question: Define people who you do not consider to be "fanatics," yet with whom you have a significant amount of disagreements.  Then if you're considering Justinian's "lock em up" stance... what percentage of the population have you just thrown into prisons or shot?

No, you're missing my argument.  It's not a question of whether the Pirates allow Pastafarians.  It's a question of whether Pastafarians are morally obliged to oppose you as per their Pastafarian beliefs.  tongue
