Re: Pirates liberate our world

The new hope for our world: the pirates party!

Do you think that politicans don't care about your views?

Do you want your voice be heard?

Do you look at all those behind-the-door-deals of the politicans with disgust?

Do you desire transparency in all political decisions?

Do you fear total control of all your actions in the net by the government or the industry?

Do you want total freedom of the www?

Support the Pirates party! Soon around the planet!

People around the world unite against the crusted old parties, which have no real answers for the new age of information. All they think of is control and repression of freedom. The people in the arab world are fighting against the old systems. We must act now before we have to fight our own dictators in the future!

Re: Pirates liberate our world

Interesting.

What do they mean by "internet freedom"? In the USA the internet's pretty free (though under constant assault). Are they arguing for child porn and rampant copyright violations, or more against restrictions which I'm not familiar with/aren't as prevalent in the USA?

I hate you guys and your parliaments. I'm a little jealous. Minority parties in the USA have to win the support of whole areas to gain voice. Minority parties spread thinly but evenly across the nation get 0 voice, stifling their ability to reach people and grow. (or disgust people by showing who they constantly side with on what issues)

Re: Pirates liberate our world

The Pirates Party does not have a position on the flying spaghetti monster. Its members are committed to openness in their debates over it. Believing it rules the universe does _not_ bar one from membership! They're open minded.

Re: Pirates liberate our world

But does the Flying Spaghetti Monster endorse the Pirate party?  Frankly, I would be question whether your notion of "pirate" would sit well with the Flying Spaghetti Monster, as "pirate" is a term specifically denoting a particular higher class of individuals, of which the individuals claiming here to be "pirates" are not.

Re: Pirates liberate our world

Religion is part of your individual freedom. Pirates don't ask for religions or gender (Pirates are post-gender). Pirates rely on cluster-intelligence. They don't like politicans or individuals who think they are better than other people. Everybody is equal. Sometimes it looks like a clutter of spaghetti, but the cluster-intelligence always finds a solution. So perhaps the Spaghetti Monster likes Pirates. wink Pirates fear to evolve into a "normal" party, they have no establishment. The "leaders" are only for administration. The cluster of individuals is everything. People may join the pirates or not, everybody can join the discussions.

@ V.Kemp
(German) Pirates fight against the restrictions (blocking periods for decades; DRM...) and for the right of private copies of digital informations. Also they support the rights of authors and creators as long as the right of private copies is not threatend. The ideal is a world of free information. The "party" has much more topics, but in the end it is: Freedom cannot be protected by abolishment of freedom.

Are there any measures against piracy you would accept, or do you hate the freedom of people who create content and demand to steal their work?

No, you're missing my argument.  It's not a question of whether the Pirates allow Pastafarians.  It's a question of whether Pastafarians are morally obliged to oppose you as per their Pastafarian beliefs.  tongue

Re: Pirates liberate our world

"Do you desire transparency in all political decisions?"

I started reading this thread, got to that line, and immediately realized that I was going to be on the opposite side of the argument due to that one line alone. People talk about freedom of the internet, wanting to have transparency on political decisions, and so many other things as if they have some sort of rights to it.

You don't actually...there is no such right as having transparency. That would effectively eliminate the use of classified material thus giving our enemies all the information they would need to destroy us. That alone should make you understand that transparency is downright stupid.

Just because you WANT to know something does not mean you have the RIGHT or NEED to know it. Your opinion matters very little in the big picture and when you start to understand that you play a very minor role in the overall scheme of things then maybe you will learn how to better help yourself and your country.

To take the material that someone has put their time and money into, without their permission, and put it on the interent so others can have it for free is and SHOULD BE illegal. It is theft! No matter how you look at it, you are stealing from someone else. You can make all the claims of "they are rich and shouldn't let it bother them", or "they probably stole it from someone else" or all of the other lame excuses you can come up with. The fact of the matter is that it isn't yours and to take it without paying is theft.

Then of course you are going to have those people who claim they bought it and are giving away what they bought for free to people.

1. Thats just a blatant lie. It is only done to make money off of
2. To make copies of something and sell it would require that you are not violating copyright laws.

You can make all the claims you want about copyright laws being wrong blah blah blah....but they have protected more people than they have hurt which in my own opinion (MY OPINION) makes it a very good thing to have in place.

Stop whining about how you are not able to get free stuff whenever you want it. Work for what you want and earn your way through life. Or continue sitting on your couch as the losers you are while those of us who do work hard pass you by.

Also, Firewing you made the comment that "everyone is equal". You are wrong...I could go into depth concerning this but the simple truth is that people are not equals. You have great people, good people, average people, bad people, and evil people. Nothing equal about that whatsoever.

The pirate party does not want to get rid of copyrigths. They want copyrights to be reformed so in the end the artists and consumers will profit from it. Right now we have the problem that most of the cash does not go to the artist who created something, but to some big company which in modern times we live in is no longer really nececarry.

One aspect is to keep the private use copy alive. When i was younger, early 90

Re: Pirates liberate our world

How ignorant.

Even in VHS days the industry would go after people for making a recording from tv.

They even did a few crackdowns of companies selling videotapes that were copies.

What the internet age did was put quantity to the problem. Where a person might videotape one movie a month, now they are downloading ten movies, or thirty, and some games, while they share theirs as well.

Re: Pirates liberate our world

By german law it is not illegal to record something from TV. We even pay a certain ammount of money for mediums like VHS writable CD or DVD, USB sticks, which goes to a fund for the copyrightowners.

It surely is illegal to use that copy to make profit, but no one is demanding to make that legal.

Also another intresting fact seems to be that people use p2p seem to by about 10 times more music then people who claim to never use p2p.

That depends on the free decisions of free people in a free market. More and more with advances in technology, artists can get high quality studio time independently. If they want to sign with a major label for up-front costs and physical distribution, that's their decision. Increasing internet sales help the small artist/creator.

Re: Pirates liberate our world

The polls show up to 13% support for Pirates in Germany. 3rd party in the polls after CDU 36% and SPD 24%

The Pirates Party is diffrent to "normal" parties. Decisions on topics are made after real time dicussions of the people who participate, this includes party members and non-members. The platform is the internet and the tools are "liquid feedback", "mumble" and the social media.

With the Pirates Party no one can say: "The politicans don't care about us." Everybody (with internet access) can join the discussions and decision making process. If you think, that something goes wrong, join the discussions groups and push your views.

Pirates don't like party hierachies. Party "leaders" shall not have power, they just organize. They even don't get paid, except their expences. This is really hard for the most, because they have normal jobs and lead a fast growing party. Recent discussions for paid party officals caused several shitstorms to the leadership.

The Pirates have no 100% party program for every problem. Parties with such programs have no real program that people can understand. Voters like easy messages.

Transperacy is a must in the western world. The financial crisis in the last years showed that too few people have the power to spend the money of our grandchildren. They just meet behind the doors and spend money to safe GM, AIG etc. Where is the common woman/man in this? We demand to know how this decisions came into existence. Maybe this is a dream in daytime politics. But it is a dream to fight for.

"The financial crisis in the last years showed that too few people have the power to spend the money of our grandchildren."

Or maybe it showed that nobody should be spending our grandchildren's money? Yet your Pirates party doesn't take a stand against irresponsible spending. They're not necessarily against this. So long as the people pushing their views are idiots, we won't cut our spending or stop printing money. This party doesn't take a stand against bombing our currency's value and dicking over future generations. I oppose this party.

Re: Pirates liberate our world

If we need at all cost a commy gov come in and ARTIFICIALLY create/protect an elite that has created its own monopoly that way, then why not protect the author/creator himself? The author can still pay the company all it wants afterwards.

Only in modern ages have we seen right-stealing companies who, with help of corrupt gov officials, stole from both authors and civilians. There would be little difference if the gov came in and taxed people and hand the money over to those companies.

Even in the middle ages, people could make a living of good music, and if they are good, they can do so now without gov bull.

Re: Pirates liberate our world

the internet is the free-markets reaction to this outrages theft. It effectively destroys the monopoly artificially created by the gov.
