It should always be discussed

The state of Texas under Governor Perry required all teens to get Gardisil, a vaccine against HPV which is genital warts

About 1 in 10 million people with HPV will develop cancer from it.   A very treatable cancer.

So supposedly all the teens in Texas are safe from that, but, it appears Gardisil has some pretty intense complications for some people.

So they were ordered to suffer that rather than run the risk of developing a treatable cancer.  And it looks like the risk of complications is more likely than the cancer in nonvaccinated populations.

This sort of thing is hard to prevent if we pretend and declare that the Science Is Settled and Vaccines Good.

Vaccines are an industrial product made for profit.   They are unsafe until some regulator forces safety on the sales team.

Now measles, we have a historical record of school districts full of kids with no vaccine, and the sweeping epidemics that can occur.

The measles vaccine can be sold as a sensible reduction in risk.  But that is a discussion that should happen every time.

OH, and it's totally ridiculous for people who believe in open borders to whine that dozens of thousands of US citizens won't vaccinate their kids.  Dozens of thousands versus dozens of millions.   Math, dudes.

Consider this thread to be a fictional episode performed for your entertainment.

Or perhaps it is a warning.

Or possibly it is a greeting, from the Twilight Zone.

Do you have zombie plan?  Do you have a plan for what you will do if the zombies attack?

Ok now suppose instead of zombies it was a race riot?

What would you do?

How is that different from your zombie plan?

Have you ever heard of an actual zombie attack?

Have you ever heard of an actual race riot?

Which would you say is more likely?

So which were you really planning for?

It was Resident Evil 5 that woke me up.   As we machine gunned swarms of rampaging blacks, I was forced to admit, if we weren't pretending this was a zombie invasion, this would be the most incredibly racist game in the history of gaming.  If Leopold II of Belgium was alive, he would be playing Resident Evil 5*.

If you are seriously open to the idea that one day the world will flip, and you will be attacked by humans who don't think like you, don't talk like you, dress weird, and are pure evil, even if they were your best friend at work the day before --- you are preparing for Sebrenica, not zombie invasion.

Out of respect to your views, when we disagree, I swear I will not be the one to call the police for help.

In the America of the Founders, the authorities offered bounty.  They didn't offer rewards for information leading to the arrest of a crook by police.  They offered citizens cash if those private citizens could catch, restrain, and haul the crook to the courthouse.  And they cared more about the Truth than manmade rules, meaning they'd rather the Court get the facts straight than ignore evidence got by improper methods like warrantless search.  So the crook got a trial, and they didn't guarantee him a free lawyer, as soon as a judge could get to town.  They heard all the evidence the police had.  And if he was found guilty of anything worse than petty theft, he could be hanged.  And they'd usually do all that within a month of him being dropped off by the bounty hunters.  And there wasn't any appeals court.   Captured by bounty hunters, denied a lawyer, tried, judged, and hanged within a month.

That's what the Constitution was meant to set up.

Anything less is crap invented by judges.

In 1792, Congress said you had to pay tax on every bottle of whiskey.  And if you didn't pay tax you couldn't have the whiskey.  This was at a time when the average American male had a third of a bottle of whiskey a day.  Even George Washington brewed whiskey at Mount Vernon, more out of a sense of duty to be as useful as possible than a serious moneymaker.  But some guys in New England decided that they weren't gonna pay the tax.  Also they decided that they weren't gonna be told otherwise,  and if some people refused to do the right thing and look the other way, they were going to kill them, even if they were officers of the federal government.

So George Washington, President of the United States, ordered the Army out after them.  And he asked for state militia to put them down too.  He asked for private citizens to get their personal weapons and go shoot Americans on American soil under orders from the Federal government, for violating laws against controlled substances.

And he got his volunteers.

That's what the Constitution stands for: Washington DC telling you this or that is banned, and you can't have it, and if you get rowdy about it, they'll kill you.

It's a free country.  If you think the government has to ignore laws regarding controlled substances, has to let local rules dominate, has to avoid using force to impose obedience, has to restrain itself from using force on people who won't accept arrest, you can do that just like you can be a communist.   But you're going against American history, tradition, and the laws dating back from the Founding.  We owe no allegiance to your proposed changes, and you have no right to berate anybody as if they "lost touch" with something agreed to.  It was never done your way.

Libertarianism is unAmerican.

A couple of years ago I was ragging on Eltara that in Europe, a 4 cylinder engine makes a muscle car.

When Volvo lifted the veil on the new XC90 a little over a month ago, it announced that all versions would be powered by one engine design: a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder to be offered in various states of tune. That would range, Volvo said, all the way up to a high-output version with "around 400 horsepower," but while it wouldn't specify exact output, now it has.

The new High Performance Drive-E Powertrain incorporates two parallel turbochargers fed by a third electric turbo-compressor. Instead of feeding the cylinders directly, that third unit spools up the twin turbochargers, working together with a dual fuel pump pressurized to 250 bar.

The result is an output of 450 horsepower – far more than the existing 320-hp version and even more than expected. That also works out to 225 hp/liter, far more than the 177 hp/liter boasted by Mercedes-AMG's high-output turbo four and the 139 hp/liter in the Alfa Romeo 4C. Short of a rotary engine (whose actual displacement is the subject of great debate), you'd have to go up to something like the Koenigsegg One:1 (268 hp/liter) to find a higher specific output than what Volvo's boasting here.

Although Gothenburg is billing this engine as a "powertrain concept," and has not commented on production applications, we'd be very surprised if this didn't turn out to be the flagship engine we were promised for the XC90.

President Obama says it is awful that the internet service providers will provide more and faster bandwidth to people who pay more for more and faster bandwidth

so he wants the FCC to ban that

but

he says the law passed in 1934 to regulate phone companies already includes the internet.

so he doesn't need permission, he'll just go ahead and do it.

They tried this before with regulating cable and got their asses handed to them by the Supreme Court

so people who don't trust Obama feel this is round 2.

After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory. 2 And he called out with a mighty voice,

“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!
She has become a dwelling place for demons,
a haunt for every unclean spirit,
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.
3 For all nations have drunk
the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality,
and the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her,
and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.”
4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying,

“Come out of her, my people,
lest you take part in her sins,
lest you share in her plagues;
5 for her sins are heaped high as heaven,
and God has remembered her iniquities.
6 Pay her back as she herself has paid back others,
    and repay her double for her deeds;
mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed.
7 As she glorified herself and lived in luxury,
so give her a like measure of torment and mourning,
since in her heart she says,
    ‘I sit as a queen,
I am no widow,
and mourning I shall never see.’
8 For this reason her plagues will come in a single day,
    death and mourning and famine,
and she will be burned up with fire;
for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”
9 And the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning. 10 They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say,

“Alas! Alas! You great city,
    you mighty city, Babylon!
For in a single hour your judgment has come.”
11 And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, 12 cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, 13 cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.

14 “The fruit for which your soul longed
    has gone from you,
and all your delicacies and your splendors
    are lost to you,
    never to be found again!”
15 The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,

16 “Alas, alas, for the great city
that was clothed in fine linen,
        in purple and scarlet,
    adorned with gold,
        with jewels, and with pearls!
17 For in a single hour all this wealth has been laid waste.”
And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off 18 and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning,

“What city was like the great city?”
19 And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out,

“Alas, alas, for the great city
where all who had ships at sea
    grew rich by her wealth!
For in a single hour she has been laid waste.
20 Rejoice over her, O heaven,
and you saints and apostles and prophets,
for God has given judgment for you against her!”
21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,

“So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence,
    and will be found no more;
22 and the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters,
will be heard in you no more,
and a craftsman of any craft
will be found in you no more,
and the sound of the mill
will be heard in you no more,
23 and the light of a lamp
will shine in you no more,
and the voice of bridegroom and bride
will be heard in you no more,
for your merchants were the great ones of the earth,
and all nations were deceived by your sorcery.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints,
and of all who have been slain on earth.”
