Topic: Net Neutrality

I have been watching socialists to "moderates" on the issue for years. It is either a "true neutral" system with a regulating body or it is a light version of the Great Firewall of China..

The basic idea for the "best" version proposed is that providers provide to customers all desired content with no adjustments, filtering, or limits. Under such a system the scary idea of Google modifying what we see on content is supposedly averted. The problem is always in the fine print. It requires a big agency with lots of manpower and regulatory powers. In other words they are presenting us a kitten, cute and cuddly, which they plan to mate with the Alien from the movie series Alien and crush all of humanity with their powers.

The version socialists, communists, and fascists (sorry for repetition) are talking about creates a form of control over content ike they did to radio back in the day. Except they feel the center is located at liberalism not at a line between conservatism and liberalism. They would stop "harrassing videos", "things that misrepresent or lie about Global Warming", "stop gun ads and online sales entirely" and a host of other ever increasingly severe things. In short 1984 was written to describe this level of control.

No matter any percieved goods in the plan we must fight it like we would fight a law mandating only "water guns" are legal. This is one way the Republic can die.

I say again: "THIS IS ONE WAY THE REPUBLIC CAN DIE!"

I hated this guy at the start, however, I played a round in PW with him where he went as an anonymous player. Our fam got smashed up and everyone pretty much left. Arby stayed around and helped out the remaining family. At the end of the round he revealed himself.... My views on him have changed since. Your a good guy.....

Re: Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality is a lie, a scam to make a new agency which will erode our rights fast.

Re: Net Neutrality

Okay, Flint... a suggestion.

Start from square 1.  Pretend Arby and I just flew in from Mars and have no idea of what the net neutrality debate is.  If we were to read your two posts, we'd get that there's something called net neutrality, someone had a proposal on it, and said proposal is terrible and evil.  That does not help anyone understand what's going on.  A bit more clarification may be necessary.  smile

Re: Net Neutrality

President Obama says it is awful that the internet service providers will provide more and faster bandwidth to people who pay more for more and faster bandwidth

so he wants the FCC to ban that

but

he says the law passed in 1934 to regulate phone companies already includes the internet.

so he doesn't need permission, he'll just go ahead and do it.

They tried this before with regulating cable and got their asses handed to them by the Supreme Court

so people who don't trust Obama feel this is round 2.

Re: Net Neutrality

Ok so a "for dummies version".

Net Neutrality supporters claim something different than reality. There is the "for public consumption propoganda" and then there is the truth.

What they claim: They claim that certain large internet providers are going to limit what sites you can go to, how much bandwidth you can use on those sites, and more. Deeper there are some who tell you some companies will alter the content you recieve.

In this they are correct. Comcast throttled the connection to Netflix until Netflix paid the requested "Bribe" money. Google plans to alter words on documents to make them "more understandable" (In reality they plan mind control via careful modifications of what you read.), and Facebook has been doing pyschological tests upon people.

They claim a regulatory body can stop this, and make the internet fair for all.

However an examination of the proposals is something else.

What the reality is

The reality is this regulatory agency would have a staffing in the tens of thousands. The proposals allow Organizations like FB to still do pysch tests, but they have to get permission first. It still allow Google to modify content except the regulators can call foul. It still allow Comcast to charge tiers, charge Netflix, to throttle and more... but now an agency will make sure they are doing it in interests of society.

The real problems however is that they change from a free internet to a controlled one where regulators can:

1. Hide political content pending a "review" which can be quick if the reviewer likes your content, or be 30 days if they feel more scrutiny is needed.

2) Stop all gun rights content, but especially the online sales of anything gun related

3) They become judges of hate speech and can close blogs (pending appeal) as desired.  The last I looked hardcore liberals view lowering taxes as hate speech.

4) They can stifle religious talk under these "hate speech" rules as well.

5) They plan a "disinformation" aspectwhich would stop people from debating AGW (Climate Cfhange), from contesting Darwinism, and other things they feel is not allowed to talk about teritory

These rules automatically violate the first and second Amendments but the liberals I monitor want this law and badly. They openly talk of shutting down Catholic and Protestant websites (and other Christian sites), of using their powers to attack Tea Party and 2nd Amendment types, and to use their powers with a new agency to prevent further erosion of the Global Warming views they have.

They plan to staff this agency, to use it, and they go on the principle that no agency when started ever loses a signficant portion of the workers or gets shut down.

Is this simple enough for you?

Re: Net Neutrality

Let me try a new way.

You get married and you both like sex. You have sex all night long.

The government says some companies want you to have problems having sex so they can make money helping you to have sex. The fact said companies would have no customers if they made sex harder to have is not included.

So the Government says they will help keep sex going. Only they propose to limit it to 3 positions, limit what is said during sex, and they mandate only a fixed number of minutes can be taken for sex.

Now some are oblivious to the problem because they never had sex, or are too old to care about sex. Some think it is just right. Meanwhile some are freaking out and saying WTF! Dont let government regulate sex.. err... the internet.
