it's hard to find evidence of negatives in history... after the Shiia split the iranians put MORE emphasis on their own shrines than those built by sunni arabs.  You won't see either Iranians or Arabs make a lot of noise about the Great Mosque of Samarkhand, and mosques destroyed by Hindus don't get much play outside Pakistan.

the emirates and Saudi Arabia would not be for sure, they do not like secular sunni islam that promotes secular warlords like saddam and they don't like shiite republics either, not much room for old-style princes in either system...that's why the infidel US has done so well there...

Sad to say our DoD under Gates and Adm Mueller don't even have the balls to shoot our way clear in Afghanistan let alone blast Iran.  All our policy goals with regard to Iran are negative; Iran not build a bomb, not meddle in the Gulf, not meddle beyond its borders, not sponsor world terror, and that means they can all be met by reducing Iran's economy and technology below a point where they can do that stuff. Invade schmade. And as Russia showed this summer, global opinion is like Mormonism, it matters if you believe in it.
