Replace EU with Flanders and it's the same thing. Belgium is not a despot state, nor is Europe. If I call the USA under Bush unfree, you'd do the exact same thing.
a bear trap
I can not even forumban another person..
Flint it's not even remotely connected to the debate, or at least it lacks anything that supports what you meant with it. I tak it as a deliberate and senseless attack on the EU and/or its organisation. If you provoke, you can't expect a better treatment in any way, that should be clear by now.
He's a hero, and I had the chance to meet him in Vienna. A friend of mine's doing his warmup there and I could join him to there and meet Devendra Banhart in person, all for free. If only I didn't have an exam on monday. X(

I agree.
George Michael is the sexiest man of them both as well.
"Live free or die!"
Another great comment by Flint! ![]()
"Bief is right, but the mistake lies with the media and the people themselves. Altough it would be a good thing if the EU institutions began to spread more info."
They do spread info, but national ministers usually take the credit for it.
You'll notice how only extremely unpopular measures are "from Europe" ![]()
"but what does this mean:
"to slowly disband Belgium"
isn't that to put all parts apart? aka splitting up aka seperating?"
Well, yes and no. The N-VA wants Flanders to be a independent republic in the EU. Meaning that certain things that are now in ou federal governments hands should be given to Europe and others to the remaining parts of Belgium. So, it's a very long term process, and I'm sure that most of the people don't want an "independent Flanders", like not every socialist voter wants a state that's completely egalitarian, or a liberal voter wants a complete Laissez-faire economy.
"But I think there's a simple solution. We convince Flint of the flemish nationalist cause and put him into the negotiation room with 1 instruction"
I support that idea!
The N-VA is defenatly facing a defeat on the next elections. They'll either have to make great concessions to the PS (wich I hope), and a part of their supporters will be disappointed. Or, they don't make great concessions and they lose votes cause they don't want to make deals..
And Elio Di Rupo would make a fab premier. He can't be called imageless like Herman Van Rompuy.. ![]()
Awesome that would be! Not powerful enough my mind is. Wasted an afternoon on that I have.
"But Primo is not a man...."
He has a penis though. I saw its head once, it looked exactly like this(nsfw obviously):

And with "keeping safe", you mean "shelling people to smithereens to maintain your position as the largest power in the world"
I hate exams on saturday. I have to get up at 5:30 in the morning to make sure I'm there on time..
"For this i included the N-VA in the separatist movement, this sounds pretty seperatist to me. Basically (if i understand it correctly) they want parts of Belgium to have control over their own politics (autonomous), which seems like a very big step towards seperation."
The N-VA wants to slowly disband Belgium and move into a confederational EU as a seperate state. In a shorter perspective, they want Belgium to exist but they want it to be confederational. This has nothing to do with the ideals of the voters though..
Most voters voted for the reform they've been waiting for over 3 years now. They want a solution to the BHV problem wich has been dragging on since 1963.. They voted N-VA cause they wanted a change and solutions, not a declaration of independence..
Don't dismiss this breakthrough Arocalex!
Nobody hates the Lakers, not outside the USA. The world frankly just doesn't care!
"With the situation as it is now, they won't be able to. I'm not talking about in 10 years or maybe even 20, but as it is now."
I'm talking about the present as well. For the past 3 years, they're experiencing a rather good economic revival. They manage to attract quite some companies, unemployment numbers are going down etc. Besides, Flanders thrived because of Walloon investments in Flanders for about a whole century (19th till more or less WWII), it's only fair that we support them in their economic low tides (wich only started in the '70s). Things are changing, support it and pick the fruits of it later. ![]()
"The seperatist movement in Flanders is actually growing. People there must start to get fed up with having to pay for Wallonia."
No, the separatist movement is declining: the VB party is dying. N-VA is thriving, wich clearly shows people aren't fed up with Wallonia itself, but with the immoblism of the last 3 years. A sign the Walloons understood. With the coming state reform and the solving of BHV, those frustrations will go away.

"so what's the complaint about trumpets? Those airhorns are a lot louder"
A single vuvuzela produces 130dB, enough to instantly cause hearing damage. This sound goes on for about 2 hours non-stop. I can understand there's some commotion about it.
reply pending. I have an exam on saturday and on monday. It's rather stressful at this time.
"That's sickening. So much regulations created by faceless eurocrates with zero accountability, bah!"
You didn't even know it before and you weren't bothered. Why would it be a bad thing?
And Chris, it's not possible anymore. The Belgian borders are set in the First Treaty of Maastricht (note: this is not the famous one). Besides, the Flemish parlaiment is within that reach of 8 miles.
Reducing Belgium to the Brussels region to take its debt is torpedoing Flanders and Wallonia as well. A significant part of our BNP is generated through Brussels and its position it has in the EU.
"I do not believe that the EU creates more laws than a national goverment. Even if this were true, I am deadly opposed to a European Super State. Thus, if Flanders wants to become an independ nation, this is their own right."
About 80% of regulations are decided by the EU.
"On top of that, nothing is stopping Flanders from becoming an EU member state."
As Chris said: disputed borders. And our national debt, wich would be divided over the 2 or 3 small states. Belgium was allowed to participate in the Euozone because almost all our national debt is to ourselves and Belgium is one of the states that started the "European process". When it splits, it creates a rather risk situation.
