Topic: Wilders wins :-)

The far-right, anti-Islam Freedom Party of controversial Dutch politician Geert Wilders more than doubled its seats in parliament in elections Wednesday, beating analysts' expectations by coming in third, exit polls showed.

The party is set to go from nine seats to 23, the Synovate projection predicts. (Bief: they actually got 24 seats)

Re: Wilders wins :-)

Wilders is playing it quit smart, saying to everybody who wants to hear it, he wants to compromise.

Rutte promises 3 weeks. Thats a stupid thing to do. It gives more power to the parties he needs to form a gov. (PVV and PVdA)

bief, did you vote for him aswell?

till the end of time..

Re: Wilders wins :-)

I voted VVD, Nemeara. I planned on voting PVV, but that party took to much of a leftist stance on economic reforms. But I do hope that the new cabinet will be made up of: PVV, VVD, CDA (and possibly SGP).

With this coalition economical reforms and a harsher stance against immigration and Islam are almost guaranteed.

Why split belgium when it is going to be europe anyway?

What do you mean? Do you believe Europe will be a single nation state one day?

They already make the biggest part of the laws we have. There isn't enough attention for the European level. People focus to much on their own national gov.

I do not believe that the EU creates more laws than a national goverment. Even if this were true, I am deadly opposed to a European Super State. Thus, if Flanders wants to become an independ nation, this is their own right.

On top of that, nothing is stopping Flanders from becoming an EU member state.

That is simply untrue. The procedure to become recognized as a country and to become a EU member both take some time. If they are allowed to that is.

And yes Bief, most things are decided on EU level. Most laws made on national level are only implementations of a EU guideline.

Thought the EU doesnt' admit states with border disputes tongue

About 80% of regulations are decided by the EU.

"On top of that, nothing is stopping Flanders from becoming an EU member state."

As Chris said: disputed borders. And our national debt, wich would be divided over the 2 or 3 small states. Belgium was allowed to participate in the Euozone because almost all our national debt is to ourselves and Belgium is one of the states that started the "European process". When it splits, it creates a rather risk situation.

unless Belgium remained, with its HQ at Brussels, and merely lost its Dutch, French and German provinces.

Then 100% of the national debt would remain Belgian.

In fact you could reduce the nation to 8 square miles around the Royal Palace.  The Italians did.

the Holy See is part of Eurozone, so that's accepted precedent!

so the Kingdom of Belgium is reduced to 8 sq miles of Brussels, with all its debt, and 99.999% of its former territory is reorganized into the Union of Separate Soveriegn Republics (USSR)

That's sickening. So much regulations created by faceless eurocrates with zero accountability, bah!

I was taught in 1995 that the EU generated 1 million pages of regulations a year.

You didn't even know it before and you weren't bothered. Why would it be a bad thing?

And Chris, it's not possible anymore. The Belgian borders are set in the First Treaty of Maastricht (note: this is not the famous one). Besides, the Flemish parlaiment is within that reach of 8 miles. tongue
Reducing Belgium to the Brussels region to take its debt is torpedoing Flanders and Wallonia as well. A significant part of our BNP is generated through Brussels and its position it has in the EU.

The fact that it's not well known is a bad thing by itself.

do you vote for your ministers biefstukfriet? no you don't, you only vote for your parliamentarians, your ministers are appointed by your queen

in the US you don't vote for any of the secretaries, you vote for a president and he appoints his secretaries

these EU "bureaucrats" are appointed by the governments of the EU, including the Dutch government, not to mention that the EU parliament can remove them too

just because they aren't elected directly, doesn't mean they have 0 accountability
