Kemp,

I think it's more appropriate to call him a charlatan. He was one of the most brilliant thinkers in human history, except he was a charlatan who produced fashionable nonsense that appealed to the ignorance of the masses. He was also an intellectual heir to the crackpot Hegel. Hegel has caused so much damage to Western intellectual development, he makes the Catholic Church look reasonable. Fortunately, the West has also produced excellent individuals like David Hume and Bertrand Russell. Sadly, the Hegelian crap dominates Continental Europe, and is corrupting the US and Britain.

Alan Sokal deserves a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Nut picking.

It means selecting the minority of nut case examples of a group and using them to describe the group as a whole.

LP,

Putin has been pretty reliable and peaceful. It's the US that has been doing the backstabbing and aggression.

Putin justifies his power with a kind of social contract. He portrays himself as being strong and able to deliver results. The problem is that his government is actually weak and his masculine propaganda is an obvious joke.

V.Kemp,

Oppression is easily maintained, and has been the reality for most of humanity throughout history. So I don't see how it will necessarily cause instability, nor do I see how it will cause any wars. Putin's foreign policy has been rather peaceful.

Flint,

Putin is more interested in maintaining the balance of power. It's the US and its allies who have been aggressive. For example, that missile shield exists only to disrupt the balance of power in Eastern Europe at Russia's expense.

The same people are not in power. Putin put most of them in jail, and placed his buddies in power. While they were part of the communist political power structure, most of them were never part of the politburo.

And I support this move. Putin in power means stability, which is a good thing for the United States. He's also a pragmatist and an admitted realist, which makes him easy to deal with. The world leaders who are filled with ideals are the ones we should be worried about.

Finally. The time is coming. A world without unions. Hurray! Now they need to get rid of the minimum wage, and unemployment among teenagers and young adults will be decreased. They won't be such a "lost generation."

WFS,

They substitute teaching the formal rules of the English language for 12 years of dull English classes. There, you read useless literature, take vocabulary tests, and write book reports. Then you have to take English again in college. I'm not kidding. I never learned anything new after 7th grade (13 years old).

This represents a larger problem with the US system of education. You are not taught the basics, then you move to an intermediate level without advancing further. That is why many college students take pre-algebra for 2+ semesters before they move on to the next class. I'm not joking about this either.

Flint,

So you mean parties should be allowed to sue over a policy because it might theoretically damage them? If that's what you mean, then I'm behind it. Other countries follow that policy, and it works fine.

Kemp,

Obviously, you could only sue to terminate a practice because it would theoretically harm you, but not to receive damages.

The problem is that supply is driven by demand, so laws intended to restrict supply are generally less effective. The more effective and less controversial strategy would be education. Educate people on the costs of sugar consumption, and suppliers will respond to meet the needs of shifting consumer tastes.

People don't want to be disabled or hasten their deaths when they age, so they'll adjust their behavior if they are informed. Education even compelled me to restrict my sugar consumption a long time ago.

However, one problem with supply is that idiots like Bush subsidized corn, which made it profitable to produce "high fructose corn syrup." Not only should there not be restrictions, but the government should not artificially increase supply either.

I don't understand the point of the opening post. While agencies harass citizens from time to time, you can fight an agency in court after you have exhausted all options of arbitration with that agency. The problem is ignorance and a lack of transparency.

Also, agencies must receive feedback from the relevant parties before they implement a law by publishing them in the federal register. Therefore, parties who would be negatively affected by a law proposed by an agency are warned before it is ever implemented, and have the opportunity to offer their suggestions.

That's the thing. Imagine Zarf as an unarmed guard who makes people wonder how he was hired, yet he seems confident doing his job. That will mess with people's heads. I'll also give him a quick lesson in martial arts so he can play the part. Additionally, Zarf will have to study every relevant street of sin city, to gain an intimate knowledge of the terrain.

I need this service because I will be sinning. I need someone to elevate my social value and scare away any moral busy bodies (people Zarf will be scary to) like Yell, who might get the idea of taking a vacation just so he can be a party pooper. This is also for Zarf. By giving him a small taste of power, he'll turn to the dark side.

Flint,

I need a bodyguard and driver for 2 days in sin city. Zarf doesn't need to be a professional, he just needs to look scary.

I will also be paying for the car rental and Zarf's air travel, tuxedo, and separate 4 star accommodations. Those expenses are in addition to the $2,000 I will be paying him. The slightly outrageous amount I'm offering to pay Zarf is intended to be an efficiency wage.

What? Tell you what. I'll purchase $2,000 in services from you, with more potential in the future. It's more profitable than whatever Flint is offering you, and less heavy on your conscience.

I think the point isn't that the British miss being bombed by the Germans, it's that they miss their former imperial glory. In the early 20th century, they were the Empire where the sun never set. Now they are nothing but a shadow of the British Empire.

This makes perfect sense considering how motivated the British were about defending the Falklands from Argentina ... a wasteland.

Regarding the Queen, she has been a dutiful monarch. Although, the generation she raised turned out to be a bunch of buffoons. That said, I respect Prince Harry. He may be a buffoon, but at least he's a warrior prince with the audacity to participate in combat. At least the blood of their warlord ancestors isn't completely washed out from the royal family. I once feared that George II was the last of the great European royals. One can hope that Harry will rejuvenate the royal family with warrior royals.
