Medical supplies? The people wouldnt know how to properly use any of it if not trained... such a waste of money.

There would still be riots for food/water... whoever controls the most resources has the most power. Once again, this happens every time drops are done.

And I bet you still havent donated or done anything to help Haiti xeno.... you just demand that the US spends hundreds of millions to help while you do nothing.

I find it amusing that Xeno is always alone in his arguments. Coincidence? I think not.

"And I bet you still havent donated or done anything to help Haiti xeno.... you just demand that the US spends hundreds of millions to help while you do nothing."

Again, get your head around this notion:  tax dollars, industry regulations, protectionism, and all mechanisms of government policy have allowed for there to be a centralized government with the political and economic power to have your military industrial complex.  It is very expensive.  To pay for it, everyone suffers a poorer average standard of living; to pay for it, everyone suffers a higher unemployment rate; everyone suffers the effect of poorer public education; poorer health care and poorer other social services; to pay for it, everyone suffers higher inflation.  They suffer this state of diminished quality of life because they have placed their trust in their governments to use the military industrial complex effectively and with moral integrity for the safety and betterment of society.  However, people are beginning to lose confidence in their governments' ability to use the military industrial complex in this regard.  They're beginning to see how the military industrial complex is not really that effective; and not really acting with moral integrity.  They are beginning to wonder if their sacrifice of a lower quality of life has been worth it.

Re: Haiti Earthquake

Everyone thinks the USA should stay out of everyone else's business at any other time.  If we go in and tell them what to do we aren't doing things right, and if we don't go full force and take over then we aren't helping enough.  We will never win.  Most others despise the USA, and will find something wrong with the way we respond to situations.  I still think it is not really our problem.  How much help did we receive from other countries when hurricane Katrina left our gulf in shambles?  I didn't hear of any.

If a man speaks in the woods and no woman is around is he still wrong?

Though it is a wikipedia source:

I as well had thought about this, I never once heard of aid from other countries. I looked around though and we did get some help, and we turned some down.

One surprise: Cuba
One of the first countries to offer aid, Cuba offered to send 1,586 doctors and 26 tons of medicine. This aid was rejected by the State Department. (and there is a reference)

Re: Haiti Earthquake

"So you cant help Haiti why?????"

Sigh, I already paid my donation before the day I was born; in fact, its as if there was a loan taken out on my behalf to pay for whatever it was past governments had used the money for, even before I was born.  I was born into debt - just like all of us.  Now, I'm paying off not only the interest on that loan, but other loans the government has taken out on my behalf for the countless of other things it decided it needed the money for.  The debt is so large, it'll even have to be paid by our grandchildren's grandchildren.  What is the necessity of further donations?  If the US really wants to help Haiti, it can just print the money it needs - like it did to bailout wallstreet, the airlines, the automobile industry, etc..

I, you, everyone, has already paid enough, and suffered enough for the ventures of your military industrial complex.   Yes, even you.  In spite of your boasting of such a nice quality of life, you really don't have one.  But that's to be expected, for you don't know any better.

Re: Haiti Earthquake

it is the american people that help haiti and other nations.  the government is practically the conduit.  its funny how alot of people expect so much of the US government then hindsight bias kicks in and then its 20/20. pathetic.

the USA is not the greatest country in the world, so people should stop acting like we are. those haitians' will be fine(those that are still alive).  BUT, you know damn well, if a massive disaster hits europe, the USA will stop aiding haiti and leave to help europe.

Re: Haiti Earthquake

"Lol.  How embarrassing for the US."

Chavez is paranoid and mentally unstable. Hardly reliable. In terms of government medical personal hat is probability true. But in terms of American doctors in total, that means form relief agencies, non profit groups and volunteer groups it is quite the opposite. There are no specific numbers to that. Unlike Venezuela the US doesn't need to send government trained doctors to help, those belong to the military and the CDC. That's what private organizations are for. The only doctors we sent down there, government sanctioned medical personal that is, are the ones from our military forces.

"I, you, everyone, has already paid enough, and suffered enough for the ventures of your military industrial complex.   Yes, even you.  In spite of your boasting of such a nice quality of life, you really don't have one.  But that's to be expected, for you don't know any better."

Your delusional Xeno. You obviously are suffering from a mental disorder and are confused and paranoid. Your pessimistic view of the world will lead you down a path that you won't like. I suggest you seek professional treatment to asset your condition and begin a program to get you back into a sound state of mine. Course chances are you don't realize the poor state you are currently in, denial is to be expected, for you don't know any better.

"BUT, you know damn well, if a massive disaster hits europe, the USA will stop aiding haiti and leave to help europe."

That's one of my problems with Europe. They've never shown the ability to lead the world when a crisis hits. They aren't unified, and are a bit timid when it comes to military force. Often times though this costs lives, Bosnia is a perfect example of what happens when Europe takes the lead. Not pretty. To be a world leader is to put your reputation on the line in order to do what you believe is right. The EU for the most part is too scared to do this. Else they would be the ones taking a lead role in areas such as peace in the middle east and patrolling off of Somalia.

In all honesty the US has very little interest in those regions. They effect Europe far more than the US, the only reason we're taking the lead role there is because nobody else is there to do the job. IF Europe wants o lead, they need to start acting like a leader. Do what they believe is right, regardless of what anyone else (Russia, US, China...ect) thinks.

Re: Haiti Earthquake

Wow, you're really full of yourself and America aren't you?

First, there's debating and there's just plain old ripping on people.

Second, after reading a couple of your post, it seems like all America does in the world is good, and every nation should follow it's example (just my impressions of your posts however). Given that; who's really brainwashed here?

Re: Haiti Earthquake

Actually America has [moo] up a lot to say it bluntly, but that's to be expected.

The thing is everything I said is true, I wish it wasn't. I would love to see a stronger Europe take a more pro-active role in world events. But they just don't. Back around the turn of the 20th century the world expected Britain and France to lead the way in times of crisis. Now it's the US. Who will pick up the torch after the US? China seems to be the only country willing to do what needs to be done. Europe wants to become a world leader but it hasn't shown the ability nor the will to do so. This can be attributed to it's past wars and conflicts.

The thing is you can't live in the past, you can only move towards the future. If Europe wants to take the lead, it had better start acting like a leader.

Re: Haiti Earthquake

I must agree that Europe doesn't seem suited for a Leader role in the near future. In order for that to happen, the E-union needs to act as one, and i have this gut feeling that it's not gonna happen overnight...

Re: Haiti Earthquake

its called specialization. here is a small list of what america is good and bad at, feel free to add your own!

good at:
1. disaster relief- after hurrican katrina, the USA amped up primary protocols in times of crisis.  Haiti is merely the US's chance to "test" out our readiness.  "sorry haitians', your only being helped for political integrety, we dont actually care"
2. Bombing- none of you actually need me to explain this? do i?
3. transportation- we can go anywhere we want!(after you've been violated, of coarse)
4. economy-  yup, damn right i said it!  just cuz some wallstreet nutjobs lost money and the media needs ratings does not mean our economy is weak.(unless you a banker)

bad at:
1. keeping jobs- globalization was our idea, so, in a sense, we fired ourselves.
2. health care-  "sir! i understand you've been shot, but the doctor will see you after you fill out these forms"
3. beauracracy-  "beauracracy is expanding, to meet the needs of the expanding beauracracy!"
4. IQ- i wonder how many kids could piont out haiti on the globe before the earthquake, "dumbass children!"
5. religion-  exactly!
6. politics-  one word: "fringe"

note: I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, I'M TALKING ABOUT THE GOVERNEMENT.

I dont smoke cigarettes because i like them.  I smoke because it hides the smell of marijuana thats seeping into the hallway atm.

Re: Haiti Earthquake

"2. Bombing- none of you actually need me to explain this? do i?"

Well we do have the largest and most advanced air force in the world. We're 2 generations of technology ahead of everyone else. Good luck catching up. At this rate by the time the rest of the world reaches our current level we'll have orbital weapons platforms that in turn make every air force on the planet obsolete. >.<

"1. keeping jobs- globalization was our idea, so, in a sense, we fired ourselves."

We're in a recession, everyone has a hard time finding jobs. The thing is can the US create new markets in new fields? Aerospace seems to be a viable target. Also medical research is huge here in the states. Another viable market. We'll have to see.

"2. health care-  "sir! i understand you've been shot, but the doctor will see you after you fill out these forms""

Something needs to be done about health-care but on the flip side we do have the best doctors and research facilities in the world for a reason. A balance needs to be struck.

"3. beauracracy-  "beauracracy is expanding, to meet the needs of the expanding beauracracy!""

That's all government. Not just here, ever try to get a visa to China?

"4. IQ- i wonder how many kids could piont out haiti on the globe before the earthquake, "dumbass children!""

Agreed, children do seem to be getting dumber, but I blame poor parenting for that.

"5. religion-  exactly!"

Religion and government are 2 words that don't mix here in the states. Maybe on the local or state level. But the feds are ficky about it due to the separation of church and state.

"6. politics-  one word: "fringe""

It's a helluva lot better than the European parliamentary system. tongue

Agreed.  I think my country (Canada) has the most bureaucracy, I needed 2 pieces of photo ID, my birth certificate, a guarantor's signature that I'm actually me, a lawyer's signature that the guy who says I'm me is actually him, and my Social Insurance Card to get my G1 Driver's Liscence (like a learner's permit).

>>"4. IQ- i wonder how many kids could piont out haiti on the globe before the earthquake, "dumbass children!""

>>Agreed, children do seem to be getting dumber, but I blame poor parenting for that.

I blame safety.  When I was young we had much less legislated safety which meant most of the dumb kids didn't make it.  To quote the late George Carlin, "the kid who swallows too many marbles doesn't grow up to have kids of his own."

There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Re: Haiti Earthquake

"That's all government. Not just here, ever try to get a visa to China?"

It's a helluvalot easier than getting a visa to the US

Re: Haiti Earthquake

"He's not talking about recession related unemployment but outsourcing related unemployment."

That's why i said new fields. The same thing happened to the British empire that pretty must ruined their country. Their jobs got outsourced and the British didn't move to develop new kinds of industry. The US stands a good chance of breaking this cycle by instead of "getting back" jobs creating new jobs in new industrial fields. The US is in a good position to lead the way in medical research and privatized space operations which will open up new fields and industries for the US to grow and expand.

Maybe for citizens of Iran or somewhere, or for ethnic chinese. I can go to the US visa free, I need a visa to go to mainland china, though i can go to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, you know the western parts...
