Topic: Trinitarianism is BS

I am talking about the Christian concept of the trinity. It's bs. Of course, I recognize that there are Christian traditions that do not believe in the trinity, and some were very respectable traditions during the early founding of the religion.

But, I am going to argue that the Trinitarian view makes no sense. To say that Jesus is God but is also the son of God (independent of the identity of God) is speaking nonsense. That's saying A = B and A = not-B. It violates simple rules of Logic, such as the Law of Non-contradiction. Now while you could argue that we just can't grasp the concept of the trinity, that's basically a lame cop-out for an obvious logical problem.

Now convert to Nontrinitarianism!

I'm debating the logic of Trinitarianism, which is a doctrine of a religion. It's not religion as a whole though.

Hmmm, this seems like a rather useless debate imo. Logic and religion don't mix together.

The belief is that Jesus was both fully God and fully human. It's not that hard to conceptualize. Obviously too hard for you. tongue

The Trinity concept is interesting because it's more a matter of coincidence than necessity. Essentially it's just saying that God is present in these different things (which are all God anyway).

The early Catholic church debated about whether Jesus was God or the highest created human (Son of God).

Long story short they were pretty much split and it's one of those things that everybody still debates.

To clarify something I earlier thought Otto had gotten right:

There was debate in the early Church concerning Jesus's divinity and exact relation to God, as Otto said. There is not still debate on this issue within the Church, however, nor was everyone "pretty much split." The Council of Nicaea (325 AD) put this issue to rest early in the Church's history.

This heresy, however, which had become prominent even among bishops, by the early 320's, contradicted the constant Christological teachings of the Church up to that point."
