I'm curious. Do people frequently exercise their 5th amendment right? And when they don't, do they often give themselves away by talking if they are guilty? I ask because my brother (who is a cop) always gets people who won't talk to him, while officers in the cities seem to arrest really dumb people who talk and give themselves away through implication.

I am sure most cities are different. In Portland Oregon the people who are most stupid are the meth heads and pot heads who always try to deny it with way to much information, accidentally leaking enough stuff to incriminate them. Those two groups in Portland tend to be statistically white guys. The black criminal community up there is in different types of drugs and crimes. Ofc Oregon is pretty much one of the top 3 for Pot related Crimes, and the top one for Meth crimes. Most of the gang violence is latino or black however, and we do see some flare ups there. Most homelessness is whites, followed by teens (of any ethnic group).

This would not be true of Chicago, or Orlando for sure, with different types of situations, enforcement standards, and the likes.

Any time someone says something that sounds stereotypical I kinda just laugh. Statistics is one thing, but your personal experiences are not sound statistics.

I do support profiling however, this helped me greatly over my 10 years in security.
