Xeno: Myabe we have the technology now a days, debatable if we have high enough technology and ability to mass produce them at low prices (like Henry Ford was able to do with the automobile.) However this doesn't change the fact that my post was denouncing your idea that Henry Ford could have mass-produced your tree houses in the same way and with the same effect as he did with mass producing the Model T.
The idea that your tree-houses (which the link you have given is still "proposed" and "artist rendition") could be mass produced nearly 100 years ago is rather idiotic and stupid, even for you. I mean really? You can't really think that Ford could of done this? Are you that stupid?
Why is it idiotic?

There should be a wind generator on top of every telephone pole in the world.
(And every telephone pole should be a tree)
Hmm, this discussion has inspired a poem:
The Road
-----------
Walking through the forest one day,
I chanced upon some men and machines.
They were chopping down the trees,
stripping and tarring the trunks,
standing them back up,
dead,
in concrete and asphalt,
and,
finally,
connecting them with wires.
"Where does it lead?", I asked.
"We don't know", they answered.
Yeah, and since most of our telephone poles are for holding power lines, let's just string them up all over the trees! Another brilliant idea!
I think you should be more concerned with the lack of education in your homeland, Xeno, before you worry about saving the whole world by bringing them down to your 3rd world level.
wikipedia != good refference material
Having technology != being able to mass produce it cheaply (the important part of model T)
Technology != Technology
How would you mass produce tree houses anyway? Mass production requires a centralized facility to produce said goods. Tree houses need to be built based on the tree, so you can't make a standard model of each. It would be like mass producing houses at a factory, then distributing the houses to various plots of land. ![]()
He's just not familiar with how we produce housing in the West. In his country you can ship mud and straw to most any location and it can be used without a problem.
"wikipedia != good refference material"
Yes, actually, it is good reference material (check sources at bottom of pages). Plus, it's accessible to everyone, for free, doing what the university library systems should do but don't because they are run by greedy, corrupt, hypocrites that don't really care about educating people, don't really care about helping the world, don't really care about anything other than money. Wikipedia is the best thing on the internet. I hope it puts universities out of 'business'.
"Having technology != being able to mass produce it cheaply (the important part of model T)"
I disagree. Having technology = individuals having tools at their disposal to aid them in survival / increase their quality of life. Mass production - just one form of technology. And like all forms of technology, it is a form that can be used in a decentralized political system / institution or a centralized one.
You can have many small individual companies mass-producing components and another small companies assembling them into a final product with another small company doing the marketing and distribution of the final product, or you can have what you have now:
a huge centralized company mass-producing all the components and even doing the mining of the raw-materials needed for the construction of those components, and a bigger, more centralized company that even owns / runs the oil wells and oil refineries that produce the oil for the company's power plants, the energy from which the company not only uses to power its countless factories but also fuel their 'security' forces, which under the guise of a so called war on terror invades oil-rich countries / instigates regime changes in oil-rich countries so that they can control land in those countries to build more oil wells to produce more energy to build more factories to produce more 'security' vehicles so they can invade more countries to get more oil to build more factories to produce more poorly designed products to shove down the throats of the citizens of the nations they control vis a vis the 'company's' (or should we now call it a state now?) mass-media, vis a vis television ads interspersed between re-runs of unimaginative escapist sitcoms and made-for-TV movies etc., etc., etc...
@K. William Fancsali
Which country do you think is my homeland?
Xeno: If you think wikipedia is a good reference source you are a bigger idiot than i thought. At best it is a good secondary source. Really you should provide the links you think of as "good" that are linked in the Wikipedia article. At least provide the wikipedia link and then say "read the links at the bottom."
Wikipedia is a poor refference material (good for general knowledge as long as you take it all with a grain of salt and then go read real refference materials. If you tried to provide wikipedia as primary refference in any academic report/essay you would be failed on general principles, or at least if you were at a half-way decent university.
Also what nation do you live in if your university libraries are trying to make money? The universities I have been too do not charge a door-charge or anything like that to walk in and read the books. The only cost as such is the cost of your time and energy to get to the library. That said it doesn't need to be your university library it could be your local library, or the one in the nearest big-ish city, assuming a half-way decent city administraiton.
The fact you rant on like that shows you are idiotic, have no reall ife experiance, are about 12 and have no brains or ability to reason. In short you are an idiot who has hay for brains and no wizard to walk too..
On your next point, just because you have the technology to make something does not mean you are able to make said something cheaply enough to make it worthwhile in the way that the model T was worthwhile. Upon reading your response it is once again blatently obvious that you are complelty idiotic with an IQ of about 2. There are rocks who can reason better than you.
In addition, your many small companies idea is much less effiicient (and thus more expensive) than the one big company, which you seem to be bagging though you sort of trail off in incomprehensivable gibberish. You seem to confuse multi-national companies and soverign nations in the middle there... There is a differnce, i suggest you go read up on them...
All in all you show no understanding of the subject, let alone an ability to actually make an argument, or even understand someone elses argument. I suggest you go back and have a lollypop then learn your times tables. In about a decade you should be ready to go to a university, if you are able to increase your brain power by then I suggest finding a decent university, this may mean going over-seas but thats ok. At said uni you should learn some actual rational skills and ability to formulate a detailed argument with rational arguments and counter-arguments...
I was going to point out the idiocy in his saying we should take away ALL income a person can get from academic contribution (which is already small), but I really don't care for the majority of academics so I'm just gonna let it slide.
You have to remember, You_Fool, that his country doesn't have the public libraries (and relatively public libraries) of our nations. Their focus is support through indoctrination. They teach him that the West is evil and it is their evil which causes poverty. He doesn't have the things we have at our disposal 7 days a week that we are so wealthy we generally ignore for our whole lives. But he DOES have the ignorance and arrogance to think he knows about these things and post anyway! That makes up for it; right? Be nice. Maybe he knows and he's just jealous.
You have a lot of focus on "give everyone X standard" (and you set a pretty high standard, with food, housing, clothing, internet, etc) with NO attention to PEOPLE HAVE TO DO X WORK TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. You gloss over this DETAIL which is the BIGGEST FOCUS OF HUMAN LABOR SINCE THE HISTORY OF HUMANITY. Work on that.
Even China and India have public libraries...
OMG YOU SAID "CHINA"
NOW YOUR A COMMUNIST (according to some)
I am a communist though
well sort of... in a more orginal sense of the word way
OMG, YOUR SO LUCKY YOUR NOT IN MY FAM
else id give you a aid embargo!!!
piff i am a commie anyway, i make all i need...
"the public libraries" != "public libraries"
The "doesn't have," "the," and "of our nations" are guilty of giving away the comparison.
You'll find that China does not allow its fine citizens all of the reading materials we enjoy access to.
well... err... you suck!
Hey, you nitpicked first. I was just more brutal! Try harder next time!
"All in all you show no understanding of the subject, let alone an ability to actually make an argument,..."
Actually, I just have better things to do.
