Topic: Tree Houses

Here is a plan of ACTION:

Step #1

Find out if, in your country, when you buy a seedling of a tree and plant it on public land, whether or not you still own that tree after you have planted it.

Post your findings here, if you please:

Re: Tree Houses

If you plant a tree on federal land its probably gonna be destroyed as hostile to protected wildlife or "destruction of govt property" and you get fined.

Often same thing with the state.

If you misplace property that can be moved, you take it away and get hit for trespass

If you plantd a seed the uncertainty of a trees growth means its as much the tree of the person who provided it land and sunlight as it is yours, so, thanks for the tree.

Re: Tree Houses

Where I live if you plant a tree on Municipal property its no longer yours and you're not allowed to remove it.

Re: Tree Houses

The tree will be removed or it becomes property of the City. Oh and you WILL have to pay the costs of removing the tree.

Re: Tree Houses

If you start digging holes in our parks your liable to get tazered by the cops. tongue

In all instances though the trees become owned by the government entity in charge of the land that it's planed upon. Furthermore if the trees are not approved by the city or country board it can be illegal to plant them to begin with. I would suggest working through a local arbor foundation, they usually have all of the legal kinks worked out with the city/county.

On federal lands it's a BIG NO NO! You'll get in very deep trouble for this, trees need to be carefully selected just to be planted by federal forest agencies due to environmental concerns. There are non-profit groups who do this kind of work but they have to go through a lengthy federal approval process. If you are caught trying to plant an unapproved tree on federal lands I hope you enjoy your stay in federal prison. ^.^

Welcome to reality....

(I assume you were trying to get the response that nobody owns the trees, or that the planter owns the trees, thus you can build houses on them and people can have shelter. You should be more concerned with who owns the LAND that the trees are on. ^.^)

Re: Tree Houses

@Lizon

Are you honestly OK with the police state?  Don't you give a crap about your ancestors, or your vets, who sacrificed their lives to PREVENT this?

Re: Tree Houses

Last I checked I voted into power all of our judges, constables, mayors, city council members, ect ect. And I certainly wouldn't want simply anyone messing around with our city funded park facilities. If you want to plant a tree, plant it in your own yard. tongue

Or like I said work through your local arbor society. smile

Re: Tree Houses

Property rights are not an integral part of a "police state", but your point is duly noted, xeno. What you should be contesting here is the concept of "public property". It is an absurd notion, since everyone knows "public" property is really just property owned by the government. I dare any of you to attempt to appropriate a piece of your local park or City Hall in the name of reclaiming your "share" of the "public" property. As others in the thread have pointed out, this would not be easy.

Re: Tree Houses

Step #2

If you live in a country that does not allow you to own the tree after you have planted it, find out how much it would cost / what the bureaucratic process would entail to purchase a square meter of land (public or otherwise) on which to plant a tree.

Re: Tree Houses

You can't purchase public land. -.-

The only way to plant a tree on public land is to offer the service of planting the said tree as a gift to the city/state. It will have to be approved of course by the governing body in charge of the land. At which point you no longer have any ownership of the tree in question.

You CAN do whatever you want on private land however.

Home construction is required to follow strict building codes just to be deemed habitable, if they fail to meet these codes they can be condemned and shut down. Furthermore plans and construction for such homes must be approved first by the building commissions, and in some areas by historical and preservation societies or HOA's.

HHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAAAA

where do you live?  letting your trees block views or God save you, SOLAR PANELS is a major lawsuit.  They even sued Mr. T for letting sycamores he planted 20 years ago block the view of a neighbor who moved in 5 years before--blocked view = less appraised value = damage.  He pitied the fool but he still had to chainsaw his timber

Re: Tree Houses

Nope that's pretty much any Democrat controlled State. Oregon, Washington, Maine, California, New York, Massachusetts, and so forth. Wont have that issue in Idaho, Utah, Texas, and the likes tho.

Some big cities which are hardcore Democrat however will be an issue, like San Antonio

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Re: Tree Houses

Oh it's bad here in Texas flint, very bad. You shouldn't generalize state policy mealy due to their overall political makeup (many of these regulations were passed by republicans). There are SO many HOA, MUD, city, and county regulations you can tie a knot around Washington with enough left over for a bow.

Course our land laws are a bit different here. Federal lands in Texas are actually purchases by the federal government from the state. Texas was never required to surrender it's public lands to the federal government. This probably explains why we have a bit more red tape to deal with in Texas than other states.

Re: Tree Houses

Step #3

If you have to buy the square meter of land, do so.  If the portion of land for sale is larger, you might want to find some other people to purchase sub-divisions / shares of the property (each will only need a square meter of land).  Select a breed of tree that is sure to thrive in the environment.  Douglas Firs are best for temperate rain forest climates.  Poplars are good for drier climates. Make sure it is a breed that will have deep-roots and will withstand the wind.  Plant it.  Visit your tree periodically to make sure it is growing straight and unobstructed.

No.

Re: Tree Houses

Step #4

As you and your tree grow old, topping the tree every 10 years or so (cutting off the top few meters of the trunk) will ensure the tree grows straight and strong as well as protect it from being blown over during a wind storm.   You might want to have it stipulated in your will that you will pass on the tree (and the property on which the tree stands if you had been required to purchase it) to a loved-one upon your death.  If you do survive long enough for the tree to have grown strong enough to support a structure, purchase a pre-fabricated OGLU (Off-Grid-Living-Unit) Tree-House from your local OGLU distributor.

Re: Tree Houses

I do not have a local OGLU distributor. Neither do you. When do we all get moved to fairytaleland?

Re: Tree Houses

Step # 5

Live out the rest of your days with the peace-of-mind knowing you lived your life (at least the latter stages of it) without adding to the world's problems.

Re: Tree Houses

"I do not have a local OGLU distributor. Neither do you. When do we all get moved to fairytaleland?"

Well, according to Kemp, 50 years.

Re: Tree Houses

Better plant your tree soon.

I'm confused. Why?
