Topic: Good programs for website design

Anyone know of any good progs

some i already know of are dreamweaver, front page, as well as the good ol' notepad for HTML use smile

im thinkin of buying macromedia studio 8, which has the whole works in, dreamweaver / flash / fireworks etc

i have used some flash before and makes a site looks way better than just animated images

shush, [wazoozlers]. flash has its time and place. same goes for flash as does for regular sites: if you don't know how to do it properly, it's better not to do it at all. there's also a reason why they differentiate flash design and web design. few people master both.

also, same goes for smallish flash banners on the site. if they look good, they will spark up the site. but if they look crap, the whole site gives a crappy image.

oh, btw. your initial post. surely you didnt' mean to count frontpage as good program?

there's nvu for html, if you really want to use a wysiwyg editor.

yea, i didnt mean the whole site in flash. that would do my head in way too much. i just used a little flash for banenrs. i think it goes with my site well.

the site is a few years old and to be honest could do with a few sticks of dynamite to it, but please let me know what you think - the main title took me for ever and a day to do, but i love that best from the whole site

1. navigation isn't supposed to always open a new window. people know how to do it themselves if they want to. a lot is to be said about your site's navigation anyway.
2. don't resize images in html.
3. use text colors that stand out from the background. reading dark blue text on black background is wanky.
4. thinner columns are easier to read.

there's some, to start with. no offense, but it looks very -95. you could do with looking at good example sites on the net before starting work on your next own site. also, you might want to look into usability regarding the navigation.

Dreamweaver's code editor is pretty much the best I've encountered so far. Notepad* is uselessly timeconsuming.

And Deci is right. If you don't know how to do it properly, don't do it at all.

the site that is live has not been touched for nearly 4 years, i know navigation is glitchy and the opening in new windows was something i meant to change.

im working on a new site now though that i hope is going to be much more better.

-95 though??  alias wasnt out untill 2000+ so tongue wink

Im a web developer I develop mostly e-learning lessons. I use a program called Lectora for most of the development.
