Re: What caused IC's downfall?

"who remember what it was like when uni news was only 10% people moaning (id put it at about 90% now) "

Thats a load of shit. Look back on the archives, because there has always been significant moaning. This 10% figure is nonsense.

Also with 50 full fams vs the current game there used to be alot more to do. Now all you can do is rape/win or sit back and infra whore it...

Re: What caused IC's downfall?

- The first HD crash.Good people left, alot of dickheads came in after that. The game got more competitive and lost some of its magic.

- The use of cores made it sowewhat boring.

- Browser games are probably not attractive enough for younger players with all that 3D wizz stuff around.

- You need to think and do the math if you want to win in this game.Thats not popular in our time and age.

- Stefans laziness. Did he fix military science yet?

Re: What caused IC's downfall?

the one thing that made it so i would never consider palying another round of IC was official NAPs. it wasnt one of the things i left because of, because i left way before NAPs were official, but it made it so i will never consider playing the game again.

Re: What caused IC's downfall?

Hm, I think there has been a recline in new IC players because when we do happen to get new players they seemed to get 'hazed' or treated like garbage by the vets or more experienced players. Like in the first round in capri, my allies fam had a couple newer players with a prick of a vet but I'll leave out the name *cough*big gary*cough* and he totally freaked out on them for losing a dozen planets or so.

Though, they didn't leave, or, atleast to my knowledge haven't left. However, many new players have, thus stunting the growth or creating a recline in the new players actually sticking around.

no the old forums aren't around anymore since that hack attack we got a while back. however, if you contrast the old population base, with the current population base, compare that with the amount of moaning, groaning and complaining, it's about the same really.

Re: What caused IC's downfall?

The way back machine. Use it

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: What caused IC's downfall?

Nothing's changed. I've played this game for several years now, and it's still the same. I guess a few things have been added lately, but overall the game is in disrepair. Stephen adds something, then walks away again. I mean, all the unused galaxies in the rankings? Bugs that have been around longer than I have? That's part of it.

The other thing is it's slow. Not like "hour long ticks are too long" kind of slow, but the fact that it takes so much time to do anything when you have a large empire. Infra jumps take hours, sending fleets, etc. IC has become a game of scale. Tons of planets, fleets, etc. And the micromanaging of it has bogged it down.

/begin personal vendetta

Now, I understand that Stephen doesn't want things automated, but honestly? I believe that a game should take skill, not time. You shouldn't dread an infra jump because you have 200 planets. I've done what I can to speed things up some, but it's against the rules to make scripts to do any real help for players. If IC is going to survive, I think it should be opened up for more people to help improve. I'm not saying it should be open source or anything like that, but those are the types of programs that work best. If Stephen doesn't want to keep IC alive, allow us to.

Re: What caused IC's downfall?

SNES never fell down!

It was BETRAYED by ingrates!!!

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: What caused IC's downfall?

I wonder if Stefan would be willing to sell IC for $50,000. Lol, ask him.

lmao! so true! i play on SNES and NES emulators all the time. those games way better then any xbox or ps2 shit. the masses just get distracted by pretty graphics.

Re: What caused IC's downfall?

IC isn't worth $50k, Justinian.

The only thing is has left is a loyal (but small) userbase. As soon as something *like* IC comes along, they will jump ship.

"who remember what it was like when uni news was only 10% people moaning (id put it at about 90% now) "

Its very true, but I never bother reading uni news lol, I only hear about how lame its gotten

and in short, the main reason for IC's death is the hacking, lack of flexibility and rather borring repeated ideas

Re: What caused IC's downfall?

online internet games are kind of like pyramid schemes... you get huge growth in the beginning then a phase of stabilisation and then you go into decline as there are more and more older players leaving than new players entering

I guess the only way to prevent or postpone this is to tweak things like utopia does and to market your game properly
