Re: Morality

I am no stoner, and my nick derives from a sonic poem by Sonic Youth.

I agree this thread's gone mad and that the discussion has gone absurd, but I just wanted to supply a rational base for "morals", as was asked by Justinian.
And you got me wrong when you interpret what I meant with "social". People have the need, in their own time, to communicate with others. That doesn't mean you can retreat into solitude (remember Rousseau's "return to nature" and his "einzelg

Re: Morality

Dear Mr. Fokker,

What I was responding to were repeated statements you made. I was not responding solely to your word mix-up. You're not intelligent or educated enough to even know what I was talking about. Don't go away mad. Just go away.

hahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahahaha @ 420. I said something about brain eating concerning the brilliant head of a department at Duquesne university earlier this week to one of his 2nd in charge PhDs. She started laughing and said it was very quotable. I said please don't quote it, I want to keep my career. big_smile

Re: Morality

I still dont see the need for communication with others, you make it seem obligatory.
I know the poem, sonic youth is quite wonderful, i was just trying to be a sarcastic ass.

i love the idea of the einzelganger (sorry no umlauts on this comp), the word itself is so perfect for it means, literally, "lone wanderer"
beautiful language is it not?

Re: Morality

i think theres a difference between a week of solitude and several years of solitude. i dont think everyone put in solitary confinement was weekminded, yet i doubt anyone enjoyed it. also, theres several examples of feral children being discovered who lived in the wilderness with no human contact, and they were pretty messed up individuals...

Re: Morality

you cant use solitary confinement, that was forced, i wouldnt like it if someone threw me in a hole, that would suck, duh.  Several years of solitude is no problem, Thoreau lived on walden for a few year, Noah John Rondeau lived in the Adirondack mountains for a vast majority of his life and said he felt nothing but pure freedom.  Of course its much easier to live alone if you are mentally and physically fit, but everyone can do it. socialization isnt necessary, its just desired.

Re: Morality

Well, there are known cases of children that were abandoned, and they were psychologically disturbed (and that's an understatement), I think that quite proves it. tongue

Don't get me wrong, people can be on their own for quite some time (depending on their nature), but no one can be alone all the time...

Re: Morality

It's possible. Just realise how much need people when you next see them. At least, the ones who matter to you.

"The true office of a friend is to side with you when you are wrong; the world will side with you when you are right."
"It is not just a friend's help that helps us, but the knowledge that they will unconditionally do so."

And if no one matters to you?

Re: Morality

Then getting along on your own may be perfectly possible.

"The true office of a friend is to side with you when you are wrong; the world will side with you when you are right."
"It is not just a friend's help that helps us, but the knowledge that they will unconditionally do so."

Quoted because I don't like being ignored.

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Re: Morality

Ignored is exactly what you're being.

I quoted you repeatedly. I'm always very specific. Go away. You're not worth the time.

I quoted ye repeatedly.  I'm always very specific, I'll warrant ye.  Go away.  You're not worth th' time.  <

And once again ye miss th' point.  See, th' problem here is that ye be not as super-awesome intelligent as ye think...  You claim t' be respondin' t' repeated statement that I made, but yer responses sound like ye be addressin' someone who is a rapist, or is at th' very least a supporter o' rapists, an' me posts, followin' yer first point-missin' post, be quite clear in their anti-rape intent an' content.

Remember this?

> Rape is only wrong because society says it is is wrong, an' even then only fer scallywags.  Did ye know that pigs dern't merely have sex, Dance the Hempen Jig The male frequently rapes th' sow in order t' impregnate that comely wench, now, is that wrong, by Davy Jones' locker?  Is that immoral, on a dead man's chest! Should I punish me piggie, Ya swabbie! <

What I actually wanted t' do with this were bein' explore th' line, th' fuzzy non-border betwixt th' black an' th' white, a discussion based upon th' premise that rape is a natural occurence that we have somehow, at some point, made unnatural.

But ye di'nae get that did ye, I wonder why?

beautifully considered? lol

I quoted every statement I responded to. Some of them several times. I'm not going to keep doing it. I'm just ignoring you after enough times.

Thankyou for finally having the courage to admit that you did not want a discussion, but wanted an argument. You have just earned a little respect, but not as much as you have lost.

I know, I can read words, just like I can read someone who is not interested in discussion but merely wants to argue. I just wanted to make sure others saw this too. wink

Re: Morality

Just go away fokker. You're a stupid kid, and you're not capable of a discussion and I'm through having half of one. If I wanted to argue I would have kept at the retarded back and forth with you instead of ignoring you. Are you serious? Are you like 10? This is rediculous.

I think it's your lack of a grasp of the English language that led to such misunderstanding on your part. You don't even know what the words you're using mean. Quoting them doesn't help; you still don't get it.

PS. I love how your prize quote is that I've already tried to discuss it with you (and quoted you for this purpose) many times but you're just incapable of a discussion. Good job. Nobody cares about your respect. You're like 5. Honestly.

This is what it looks like when you ignore people? Funny, it looks like an argument to me.

Re: Morality

Yes. I'm certainly engaging you in a discussion, not talking down to you like a retard. You got it right.

Re: Morality

oh good, Arnor is here reading this so I don't have to tongue

violent offenders in CA prisons (I mean guys who committed lethal violence inside the prison) used to be sent to Pelican bay's isolation ward.  they saw no guards or other prisoners.  guards in a control room would monitor them by remote camera, open doors in sequence so they could move down hallways to messhalls where a meal was already laid on a table for them, then open doors for them to return to their room or the gym.  These men became very placid, stopped breaking furniture or beating and cutting themselves, and became model prisoners.

because these men were obviously psychologically altered without consent, the courts declared this form of incarceration to be cruel and unusual punishment, and outlawed it.  Today they live normal and lethally violent lives raping fellow citizens in prison, in fulfillment of their constitutional rights. hmm

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.
