Topic: Chronicles of a Universe

Space is vast, some even say endless. Whether this is true or not is not important right now. What matters is that in such a vast domain, over a vast period of time, thousand life stories are told. Some are connected, even over thousands of light years or thousand generations. Other are seemingly distant from the others, but who knows? What matters is that these stories are told and this is why you were summoned here.

Main idea of this thread: Should you have short stories that you don't know how to use (preferably with a hint of science-fiction), this is where you can add them. I will be posting a few that are related to each other, but you don't have necessarily have to connect yours to mine (if you want to, feel free though). Later I'll probably post a few that aren't related either. I just wanted to see how many different stories -related and unrelated- I could get for a same universe and perhaps later add them in a sort of timeline. So feel free to post!

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Re: Chronicles of a Universe

The stars shone bright that evening, Cordan Night, the most important evening for many inhabitants of Cordan. This planet was well-known throughout most of the universe for their assassination guild, one of the best training grounds for assassins. They were also well-known for denying anyone not born on Cordan to enter the guild. It was an option only to the inhabitants and a choice on which they

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: Chronicles of a Universe

A different storyline, as preparation for what's to come. I'm eagerly awaiting your story, Arocalex tongue Mind you, a spellcheck might be useful (no offense)

We leave Agnash Badu behind to travel to an entirely different solar system, with many less advanced civilisations directly countering the strategic importance of the system

Re: Chronicles of a Universe

None taken.

I added a small part to it. I'll add similar parts later on:d

Re: Chronicles of a Universe

In a universe like this, there are many federations, empires and other, fighting for more power. Throughout the ages, many tried and now was no different. In this particular age and area of the galaxies, it was High Emperor Jurgale the Second who grabbed his chance. Heir to the throne of Riilk

Re: Chronicles of a Universe

(OOC: Entirely different storyline.  I wonder if anyone can figure out where this inspiration comes from. tongue)

"We're almost there," Captain Silent said to himself as he stared out the thick windows that separated him from the void outside.  There were so many stars outside and Silent could only imagine how many people could be out there, how many more worlds were out there that harbored the human race, and how many more there were of other exotic races.  He looked forward to the new places he might encounter.  To many, he was an adventurer, a dedicated explorer, and a pioneer of his people.

And he had to be.  It had been a millennium since his civilization was founded on the planet of Kamor by his late ancestors who fled a sector of space to create their utopia without any threats opposing its existence.  Not only had they succeeded, but they flourished on a new world abundant with resources that would have driven most other worlds mad with war.  It only seemed to be more of destiny to the people as it was discovered that the neighboring worlds also harbored such abundance, if not more abundance.  War for the Kamoku Kumori, as they were originally called, soon became nonexistent as opposing sentient life had diminished.

However, that did not stop the Kamorians, as they now refer to themselves, from training for war or maintaining the ideals and martial arts of their predecessors.  As the centuries went by, the Kamorians expanded into neighboring systems as the population rapidly increased, which then resulted in an influx of resources, which further caused an influx of infrastructure, technology, and military capabilities.  It seemed to be an endless cycle that caused the Silent family to be revered throughout the Kamorians as saviors of humanity.

As such, Captain Valkarin Silent was going to uphold his family name.  Although his family is no longer in absolute control of his people, they still made a living in the military aspect of life.  In fact, Valkarin Silent is a direct descendant of Alexander Silent, the famed admiral of the First Great War in the Sol System where he fought for the Core Alliance and nearly drove the Federation into ruin.  It was Alexander that formed the Kamoku Kumori and it was his dream that created PATRIA.  However, it was his children that led the people to their new homeworld of Kamor.  Now, it was Valkarin that was going to lead his people back.  The coordinates to the old systems were kept for an entire millennium so that the Kamorians would someday reveal themselves and bring on its knees the worlds that fell to corruption and faithlessness.

"Sir," the First Pilot said, "We're approaching our safe-zone.  We're ready for your order."

A smirk came across Valkarin's face.  "Activate it."  The large warship, three times the size of the ancient Kamoku Kumori carriers, slowed down until its velocity reached zero.  Valkarin now crossed his arms as he watched three pyramid-like devices protrude themselves from the ship - one from the front, two from the top end of the vessel.  They glowed with a bright, and nearly blinding, energy and within a few seconds, the devices fired five continuous beams (two more devices were apparently placed on the underside) at a single point in space.  This focus of energy caused a massive white ball similar to an explosion as a spheric seismic wave was shot outwards.

Yet, the ship remained un-phased by the wave.  Valkarin grinned as he beheld the result of the reaction - a planet-sized vortex of red, blue, and purple, with a white center.  Centuries of research, centuries of perfecting the devices of PATRIA, centuries of perfecting human technology and warfare, were now going to be used for the ideals of the Kamorians.  Capt. Silent can only imagine the surprise of his people's cousins as they beheld an armada of a thousand mountainous warships, with hundreds of millions of soldiers, and enough firepower to lay waste to entire systems.  With a firm, but excited voice, Captain Valkarin Silent gave the order, "Commence invasion."

Re: Chronicles of a Universe

"Innocence is the price of justice..."

The words echoed around and around in his head as he stared, through the viewscreen, at the planet. He had received an Exterminate order from the High Command, and he knew what that meant. The High Command only issued an Exterminate order for one crime: treason.

Only now, face to face with destiny, did he realize that this planet was his homeworld.

Was this right? The High Command had only issued the order based on the crimes of one man. Did it make sense to annihilate seven billion innocent lives to punish the crimes of one?

He did not dispute the deplorable nature of Ragnar Mbuotu's actions, but did an entire population have to suffer as well?

It was then that the Overlord's voice spoke directly into his mind.

~tHEy hAVe tHe bLOOd oF oUr pEoPLe oN tHEiR hANDs...~

He knew, deep down, that this was a lie, but it was not his room to question it. He was an Inquisitor, after all. It was his job to quell uprisings like this. He should not be questioning decisions like this.

All the same, he was conscious that this was somehow different. Blasting a world he had never heard of was one thing. Destroying the home he had been raised on was another. He wanted Mbuotu dead too, but this was madness. Wasn't there a better way?

He would never forgive himself for this, he thought. "Commence extermination," he ordered.

A solid red beam of energy shot out from a massive emitter array at the front of the ship, penetrating straight through the planet's atmosphere, tunneling deep into the crust, and focusing at the planet's core. He closed his eyes, knowing what would happen next.

The entire planet's surface, until now a lush green paradise, suddenly flashed bright reddish-orange as the crust shattered, allowing molten magma to rush to the surface, entombing everything in a lethal torrent of superheated liquid rock.

He opened his eyes, beholding the destruction of everything he had once known. Mbuotu and his followers were dead, one more statistic to be added to the history records. But would anyone understand the cost?

He wanted to leave as quickly as possible, unable to face the reality of what he had just done. "We're finished here," he said in as level a voice as he could manage. "Take us out of here."

Price for justice, indeed, he reflected.

Re: Chronicles of a Universe

It was long past his glory days, and the old man sat contentedly in a rocking chair on the front porch of his summer home in the country, taking in the wonderful sunset. He stared at nothing in particular, reflecting on memories of the past. It felt good to relax after so many years of unceasing duty, he thought, and the realization brought a smile to his face.

Twenty years ago, he would never have dreamed of leaving the UEF Military Service; it had been the only life he knew. He was younger then, though; after a while, the constant stress had taken its toll on him, and three years ago, he had decided that he had had enough. He had retired from active duty after over four and a half decades of faithful, unbroken service.

Of course, he recognized the importance of having experienced commanders in the force, and he always kept himself ready to return to duty on short notice. This was perhaps fortunate for the Service, for he was no regular officer. He was General Carl Reddington, and in all modesty, he was the best. Ever since the death of Commander General Michael Camore and right up to his retirement, he had been responsible for the security of over half of the UEF, and he was still the chair of the Federal War Advisory Board.

His longtime friend, Admiral General Logan Grimnar, was one of the most talented and experienced naval officers he had ever known, and still served as the commander of the entire UEF space force despite his age. They had seen many wars together and helped each other out for over two decades already, and they had been, and still were, virtually inseparable.

The sun was on the horizon now, and as it sunk lower, Carl reflected on his life. He could remember little of it outside his military career; he had been so dedicated back then that he had had no time for almost anything else. Now, he had all the time in the world, but just as the sun was setting, his time was running out. He was in the early stages of bone cancer, and though the doctors said they would be able to halt the disease soon, it was a mark of how close he was now to his own personal sunset. He knew that death was approaching for him, but he wasn't afraid anymore. He had done what he had set out to do, and the realization made him proud, made him happy.

He knew there was no use worrying about it. There were other things at hand to be done. Even now, he could see a shuttlecraft approaching fron the southeast, and he knew that Logan, his closest friend, had arrived.
