Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

Lower euro does promote investments in the EU so no real biggie that the Euro is going down right?

besides it's gone up over the last few years while the dollar was unstable.. think this small drop doesn't mean there's no faith in the Euro

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

i still thin your euro bashing is a lil silly.

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

Historically.....in its short history....the Euro was overpriced.
I THINK...that at about 1.5-1.6 its about correct.
But that realative to me, as a New York City person....Im used to higher price.

BUT.... I compare that to New Yorkers that travel to London (I know Pound), Paris, Berlin, Rome....so the strong Economic cities of Europe.
They feel the Euro at 1.2 is cheap at 1.75 expensive.

That said......and hey, Market dictates.....

that said......

Its all about the last few weeks Schiep.

When people were fleeing the world markets, they parked their fortunes in US Treasuries.
It looks like they were comfortable w/the YEN, or Japanese notes in Asia.

BUT......Comodities crumbled, markets crumbled, and the Euro crumbled under the preasure.

the EURO, has no CENTRAL control....there for, no stability.
People, investors, banks, corporations, hedge funds, what ever......had no faith in going to currency in the form of Euros.

Thats my point.

Full faith and strength of the Euro is exposed.

go read about ECB

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

could everybody who doesn't understand a thing about currency's go away please or read up before you post.

the terms weak and strong are often used with currency's but have a whole other meaning.

weak means it's good for ppl who want to invest in that currency but bad who invest with that currency( in other currencies)
strong means the exact opposite.

so both have their advantages and disadvantages though where I live( belgium) a country where it is necesary that our export> import because of lack of natural resources, etc. it means that a weak euro is better.

so yay the euro is finally coming down( or actually more like the dollar is going up)

btw: as some ppl said: you can't really judge a currency because it fluctuates or the value it has right than because many factors are involved.
for every american saying that the euro is devaluing( in comparison to the dollar)
there is a european that's saying that the dollar is rising in value( in comparison to the euro)

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

thats what i wanted to add.. its not that the euro had been super strong over the last years.
it was more that the dollar was quiet weak. maybe because US goverment or greenspan or whoever wanted it that weak.

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

BW forgets why the dollar is low, becasue all the oil billionars from saudi are mass buying dollars, and american company;s, and the only reason why the dallor is getting high again, is because they want it to be high, they invested so much in the US economy, that if it collapse, they will loose alot of money, so they are buying dollars for themself, so US economy keeps rolling and doesnt go bankrupt, together weith their investments.

So to summen it up, US dollar is high atm, because a bunch of saudi billionars are buying them, in the hope their US investments keep their value.

I survived the Test? of 12-4-03, anyone remember that?

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

@ Schniep.

No central Cohesion.  I KNOW there is a European Central Bank.....daaaaa.
France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland......all went in their own directions to prob up their own banks......

@ All......

If YOU all dont know what you are talking about......then stay away.

Stability is needed when you are dealing w/Currencies.
Nothing is done overnight.  Contracts are long term, and need a stable trading platform....that has not happened over the last few weeks.

If you needed a nice stable place to park your cash (the part of your portfolio not invested in equities) you would have been CLOBBERED if you parked it in Euro-notes.

The DOLLAR was the place everyone flooded into......US Treasuries.

The point is......lost on those that dont know.

I wasn't saying that fluctuation is good. stability is needed indeed but

sayint that the euro is doomed because it dropped 0.1 after going from 1 to 1.45 is ridiculous.
it's a good thing we are going down again or the dollar is going up how you want to see it( though since you think fluctuation is bad. whenever an exchange rate changes you probably never think about thte fact that it could be the dollar that's fluctuating.

looking at economy in europe and the changes in america I don't find many reasons that could make the euro drop 0.1. but in america there has been a lot going on so it's actually the dollar that is risng/fluctuating.

so based on what you say(fluctuation is bad) I could conclude that the dollar is doomed. but that's not true is it? no currency is doomed (yet) that's teh simple fact

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

The fact is that the USD has depreciated in value against a basket of currencies over the last few years. The EUR has appreciated in value over the same period - as have currencies like the Russian ruble, Hungarian Forint and Czech Koruny. What we are roughly seeing now is a slight correction in the exchange rates. However the Euro is still at a high historic exchange rate against the dollar. The Euro traded in the early 200s at a weak base as there was little confidence in the Euro. $1 could buy about

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

Read my initial post.

I believe you all are missing the point....and I say this to you MACE only because I dont believe you read the entire thread.

This is about the last few weeks, and what market held up.

My point was the skittish all for ourselves reaction of the individual govts. that have the Euro as their basis.
By not acting as a all for one type of attitude...and supporting the ECP, the Euro took it on the chin.

Safe haven through the turmoil was found in the Dollar, and the YEN.
Some what the Pound Sterling.

The Euro did not fair well at all.

that was my point.
Just to catch you up MACE.

It is really hard to have an exchange w/people who just dont understand what exactly is being discussed.

Its funny to hear you say that BW, because I don't think you relaise what everyone else is saying... true it is not what you are arguing, and they are missing your point too, but still... It does make for an annoying thread where no one understands anyone else...

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

Fool,

Almost a post worthy of a response.

It is a short term change we are talking about....well, I am talking about.
Has the Euro done good for all of Europe ??
I dont know.
Was the exchange better for US Exporters this past spring....sure was.
Is it better for US Exporters......now, Yes.

Its not about long term...it was about the past few weeks turmoil.

Did you understand that ??
My point, as to the initial post of this thread ?

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

Has the Euro done good for all of Europe ??

It eliminated shitloads of taxes on import within EU and doing so it eliminated a lot of extra paperwork and non useful jobs

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

agreed.....that was the long term intent.....a unified currency to increase production.

But, for it to be externally effecient, it has to have faith and confidence from abroad.
It did not fair well in the midst of turmoil, because it had no sence of direction.

To many govts, not working together.

Re: The full faith of the EURO is exposed

BW: IN your own funny way you have moved the topic however, by being as insulting as you normally are people have defended their currency... i mean if I pointed out that the US moved all their money to my currency (which they do thanks to our lovely high interest rates) would that make my economy better? IS the NZX50 suddenly the diamond standard?

I believe the rates here are what, 3%?

insanely low, the Fed's drive to avoid a recession will render them useless.  what am I saying? they already are there
