ok, I have never had it. Next time I'd have the chance I'd check it out.
There is basically a bunch of Belgium-style beers... that is actually more of a style of brewing. Very high percentage, multiple-distilled, very crisp, and slightly carbonated.
But - my first beers were pilsner-type beers, andI will always remember that taste.
hey, I think they should have final exams on beer knowledge starting 5th grade.
oh, if you havent started the beer brewing yet. make sure you have lots and lots of ice to cool the beer quickly before putting the yeast in. i was caught unprepared and it took like an hour. i was very lucky that it didnt go bad.
yeah, you better be prepared.
you have any names of those belgian beers with 8-9%?
well, I think that because this thread is called 'the SOBERING reality' the beer topic is completely in place.
Trappiste @ 9.5% (dark&white options)
One of hte beers I liked had a monk on it... I think it might have been called Monk's beer.
But on the other hand, half of the beers are called 'Monk's special"
yes, Duvel is a name I should have started with. There are others too, but you had it?
nope, never had it, i'll look for some tomorrow
it is somewhat expensive though. Try it, but watch the bill, of course ![]()
so back on topic with beer cilvilization. the question is how do we make the US, which is so conservative they temporarily banned alchohal altogether, how do we make americans drink more beer. because you know, if americans drank more beer, we wouldnt of invaded Iraq.
Hey, be careful with some assertions - if beer becomes an important commodity, then USA might invade Germany, haha.
But the invasion would happen annually during the festival known as 'Oktoberfest'
I think time is all it takes. It is like brewing a beer - you have to let it sit for a while, until it ages just right. The yeast was put just recently. You have to give it some time.
that reminds me... i need to save up to go to Oktoberfest next year.... and learn some german
then the conditions have to be right. Ok, as I mentioned somewhere else - during bad economic times, beer sells better in the states. This means, that people will turn to beer more and more.
Anotehr important condition is to allow people to enjoy beer more throughly. That is: no more driving back, let's live next to pubs.
If you elect my party, we will fight for these rights! We will fight for you and for your opportunity to enojy your beer every day!
I do think that there has been a growing beer culture in the USA. I have not lived that long to witness it become mroe influential, but with all of the talk about it, people get to know more.
What always amazes me, is the 21-year old law. Hmm. You can have a gun before you can drink. You can drive before you can drink. You can marry before you can drink. (and then again, there are the drunken-driving problems..)
its really stupid because kids turn 18 in highschool and then they go to college and live by themselves and alcohol is readily available even though they're underage and they binge drink and theres all these accidents; if people were still living with their parents when they were the legal age, the parents would be able to pass down their drinking wisdom and supervise their kid's drinking habits early on. its not like making the legal age 21 keeps any college students under 21 from drinking. hell, when i was underage, i could/did drink in public outside right infront of a cop and they couldnt do shit because they couldnt search my plastic cup to see what liquid was inside without probable cause.
haha, the cops at my college would sometimes hang out when we would drink. I had drinks with 3 different professors, while I was still underage. Sometimes, we would drink in the academic buildings. Me and my friends decided to stockpile the beer bottles (that we drank in the acad. building) in one of the drawers. At teh end we had over 150 bottles!!!
back when there was like 8 democratic presidential candidates, there was a debate, and one of the questions asked was would they be willing to lower the drinking age, and only 1 person said yes, and i thought, now theres someone i could vote for. but unfortunately he wasnt nominated ![]()
I hate drinking. Only drink enough to get buzzed when I go party, then I stop.
"that reminds me... i need to save up to go to Oktoberfest next year.... and learn some german"
only word word needed there.... and thats "PROST"
That's funny. I live in a city predominately of German ancestory, and there is going to be a huge Oktoberfest.
But then, it's nothing like New Ulm where the nuts speak German too. On Oktoberfest, they even dress in traditional German attire and play instruments. No joke. I went there for a cultural experience requirement in one of my High School classes.
"only word word needed there.... and thats "PROST""
bah, i already know that. im not completely ignorant.
"That's funny. I live in a city predominately of German ancestory"
you do realize that just about every City is Predominately German in the US? its the most common nationality in the US by far.

Yeah I know it's one of the more common nationalities, but it's not common to live in a city where 90% of the population is German.
