Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

By the way if a republican answers the question, could a democrat answer that one:

"Why on earth are democrats not saying: 'if McCain wanted to put country first and politics aside, why didn't he first reach out to Obama's camp to propose to suspend both campaigns and go to Washington'."

Thanks. I'm just missing stuff on the last two days.

I said nothing of the sort.

you can fool others with that bullshit, but not me.

you said

"A debate on the financial crisis in Washington would be fairly idiotic and serve no purpose, unless they both plan on replicating the financial crisis and/or the circumstances that led to it when they take the helm."

avo..why? i expect a reply from you, for a fairly lengthy post ..that i thought made sense yikes

how dare you guys tongue  i actually tried to be unbiased in this one thread, i swear tongue

and avo, i'm starting to think you aren't so biased, i'm not saying that just cuz you oppose me every single time, but like i said

mccain made a great move, but he didn't play it right, he didn't play it considering the situation... he could've made it much better i would think

ok now response to your actual post on the last page:
"Obama saying he called McCain and was talking about a joint statement changes none of this. Obama going to Washington changes none of this. "
obama called mccain first and then they talked about suspending campaign and moving debate, obama said lets put out the joint statement and let's let the campaigns figure the debate thing out -- later he sees mccain on tv at his hotel, talking about suspending this campaign

this was a good move from obama because:
now he's seen as the one who initiated the move, and mccain is just seen as the guy who jumped the gun and wanted to take his own politcial gains and now i'm not saying mccain did this just for politics... but what do you think the media will say?(remember the media has a big part in this)
the media is, and will continue to say this, and ask this of their correspondents: "how do you think this political move will play out with voters?" or "why do you think mccain made this politcal move? - response: oh he's slipping in the polls you know" and many many other questions, twisted and picked at,

now the other thing:
"gladiator, you do realize for debate, there needs to be two sides, if McCain doesnt show up, it isnt a debate, and if Obama shows up, first it gives the impression McCain's time is more valuable then Obama's. 2nd it gives the impression McCain takes the economic problems more seriously, and third it makes Obama seem shallow because he's more concerned with being on TV then helping the country. "

lol, you make it seem like, obama will be standing on the stage waiting for mccain, or vice-versa
that's not how it works tongue, the campaigns will have negotiated this before hand
and also remember, mccain didn't say he's not guna show up at the debate, he just said he would like the debate to be re-scheduled
but the organizers aren't doing it anyways, so it's guna happen, you can bet on it big_smile
ok this is where opinions come in, i do think it's a nice political move as i mentioned before since it does show you taking a step for the economy and that's great for mccain as he's clearly loosing on the economy issue, BUT I believe it won't work too well for him, considering the situation and all the variables like the media(newspaper, television, radio, web), obama and the democrats repeating these statements --"obama initated it...we don't need the presidential election politics in the congress with this bill ... we already have the bill almost passed...american people deserve a debate...obama's helping anyways, over the phones and he's talking to us"

"Obama seem shallow because he's more concerned with being on TV then helping the country"
COME ON tongue
name one politician who wouldn't love it to be covered by the media 24/7 tongue

@gladiator, you [LA Galaxy fan]first of all, you should of said, im not unbiased, not that i am not biased. and i never claimed to be unbiased; infact being unbiased is an impossibility in the real world; its an ideal like equality. earlier this week i was actually leaning towards Obama more so then McCain.

if what you say about what Obama said is true, Obama is flip flopping or lieing. if Obama wanted to suspend their campaigns then he wouldnt be pushing to have this debate.

and i dont read the news. i find it iritating people trying to look unbiased when they're obviously biased. its much easier to get the facts from openly biased sources from either side. so when i said if, i was talking about one hypothetical situation, it doesnt matter if it occurs or not.

and it doesnt matter if all politicians are guilty of something, its still bad when its seen by the public. just like all politicians lie, but when their lieing is seen by the public its a bad thing.

theo's post was shorter and easier to reply to, give me a sec, God. smile

i just get back from work, and now i have time tables to respond to a confederacy of dunces?

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

I think both candidates are being immature honestly. Well, in a sense. McCain stabbing obama in the back was pretty low. I don't really care who approached who, just as long as they can show that we can be united because it causes a trickle down effect. The joint statement and suspending the campaigns is the best thing for the country right now. Or would've been. At least then the "my candidate, my candidate" situation could've been temporarily calmed and we could focus on important matters as a Nation. Now the democrats are being greedy and the republicans are doing the same. Not that they wouldn't have been. But I think a joint statement would've set an example.

If Obama goes to the debate stage alone then I'm going to be disappointed. We don't need to hear much more from Obama/McCain solo. Lets hear them talk together face to face. This is why I don't really care for politics. Too many childish people with power. Even 8 year olds get along better

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

McCain will go.  I guess we should blame The Country, because The Country told McCain on Wednesday to call off Friday's debate and negotiate the deal, and then presumably The Country told McCain to get his ass on stage tonight and debate.  The Country is being irresponsible to John McCain and taking advantage of his pledge to put The Country first.  Although I guess that makes McCain an enabler.

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

McCain's going..GREATTT smile

now he's taking a step back, he should've played his cards on this on saturday, or monday..
he should've been smart enough to know there wasn't guna be a deal and play his cards, and it would've benefitted him a lot..

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

lol Nobody told McCain to put anything aside. That was his own doing. If he can't make a decision as a grown man and a possible president then he really isn't fit to run the country =p

He tried to do something to make himself look good and it just didn't play out the way he wanted it to. That's pretty much it. He made the choice to call off the debate and then obama gained in polls. So now he's going to the debate. It's not really a time for gimmicks. The bailout situation has made voters even more anxious to pick the right candidate. It's nearing october. Time to put up or shut up

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

the thing i'm wondering is...
was he stupid enough to believe he could move the debate?
or was he stupid enough to believe no one would pressure him to go to the debate?
OR was he dumb enough to think he wouldn't have to step back on his steps?

if he was guna do this, atleast he should've been smart enough to do it after the debate, the bill wasn't guna pass, it was clear(unless that became clear only when repubs started saying no, but w.e ..forget that)
mccain and his campaign should've been smart enough to figure out that obama wouldn't have followed mccain, mccain couldn't move the debate, mccain would've had too much pressure on him to go to the debate
and now for himself he has made a bad situation even worse..

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

OK maybe this isn't the right thing or even the smart thing.  But if you don't elect McCain, the seas will boil and stink of cheese and the sky will turn the color of blood.   And if that's even possible, you have to do whatever it takes to stop it.  And you have to do it right now.  Don't throw away what's good waiting for what's perfect.

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

LOL

frankly i don't want a president who isn't smart enough to see what's coming his way in less than 2 days tongue

or in mccain's defence, he might've just forgot... which might be worse than what i said above..

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

ok gladiator, i have you 22 hours, much more generious then the 10 minutes you gave me; you still not going to respond to my response?

also, how do you not know that coming back for the debate after suspending his campaign wasnt part of his plan?

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

LOL avo, i knew that cuz he said ..he wasn't guna participate in the debate unless the bill had been done..

and which response are you talking about?

but i was guna say, wtf are you talking about? tongue i didn't get ur response tongue

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

Democrats screwed up by touting THEIR bill as the unanimous favorite for immediate passage without bothering learn if everybody liked it

If Deomcrats thought McCain could deliver rightwing Republicans--and it looks like they did--they have worse intelligence than the Clinton CIA

Dems have the votes to pass whatever, for some reasin they demand all Republicans agree--I think because they know this will fail and be just the first step to planned economy and they want opposition compromised and neutralized from the beginning

Re: McCain Suspends Campaign! Smart move?

Yeah the democrats were stupid. I don't know what the hell they were doing. From my understanding, everything was going fine until they got greedy and dreamt up a bill that was going to be passed only if congress was full of 7 year olds.
