Topic: Obama (New York) and Europe...

That's it. After seeing that Ney Yrok "might be contested" in the polls, I realize that the polls are just plain wrong, and that we will see a landslide Obama victory.
So this puts me in a different mode, and I must tend to my fellow europeans posters here.

== ARE YOU SO SURE YOU WANT OBAMA? ==

Let's face it, Europe is at a crucial point now (and for a couple years already) to try and decide if it will exist as a kaleidoscope of little-meaning countries or a true united global power.

And the truth is, we don't have any single personality to guide it through difficult time, even with surprising economy health (thanks Germany) and overall quality of life. The Kohl, Mitterand, even Balir - though Great Britain is barely european - have disappeared.

Now, in the US of A, Obama has more than a slight opportunity to be elected.

== OBAMA THE NEW GOD - BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ==

He is everything we can admire. A smooth diplomat, a leftit cousin from that strange country where people still die in the street or from lack of healthcare, a middlename and culture that means he won't be a bully regarding current extremist threats, a BLACK american who, solely from ethnics, will be able to understands the odds when facing situations like Iraq, Iran, or any other crisis on the globe, responsibly. Great.

If you put the lack of european figures next to Obama's natural sexiness, you understand pretty quickly the attraction he might gather in Europe.

He will be a god, he will become the "lost brother that came back stronger than before" to lead the way when we are hesitating and unsure about losing some of our own sovereignty to a bigger goal.

== DO YOU REALLY WANT TO GO BACK TO THE USA? ==

Now, the equation is pretty simple. We have the choice to go our own way, and become in the next 10 or 20 years the 4th global power, next to China, Russia and the US. Or, we can just go back to our old dreams (we know them, we created or at least inspired them) from the New World.

Do you people understand what it cost us to get rid of the US way? It took an insane attack (9/11), an insane war (Iraq), obvious proofs that there were no better than we were (Abu Grahib) and the detailed and documented demonstration that they could, as we did, lose all their values to fear (Guantanamo and Patriot Acts).

== DO YOU REALIZE THE ODDS OF THIS HAPPENING AGAIN? ==

None. It took a president more eager to acknowledge economic benefits that geopilitcal or domestic ones, and won't happen again. It featured the most ambitious terrorist plan ever. And it needed national pride and fear to allow impossible twists to the constitution.

This is a UNIQUE chance to define ourselves without external influence, a unique opportunity to grow balls and try to exist again as a continent, and not to become once again a partner of the most powerful nation on earth.

== THINK MORE THAN 4 YEARS AHEAD ==
---

Yes, a "western world" (puke) led by Obama has many chances of sorting most of the world's problems. I realize that. I know also that, contrarily to the joke made by O'Reilly, he WOULD actually just need to show up and get massive crowd approval, which european democracies are so dependent upon. Berlin showed that, actually. But what next? If he starts his endeavours but a republican gets elected after 4 years? You'll pay for trusting him and what he stood for. Even after 8 years.

Having John McCain elected will be the best of both worlds:

Re: Obama (New York) and Europe...

I think Europe would have been better off if Hitler hadnt been stupid and attacked the USSR.  if he had not of done that the USSR would never have entered the war and Germany could have focused all of its attention on fending off the USA and UK forces in the west.  the war would have stalemated and left germany as a european super state like the USSR and USA.  this would have seperated the power of the world more effectivly and probably would have lead to a much more advance society than what we have today through the greater power of the competitors.

but i cant say that what did happen was a bad thing.  we put an end to a powerful dictator saving millions of lives but look at europe today.  its a bunch of meaningless fractured countries.  it's sad really sad

... and that is why Soth is voting McCain come November!

(I do hope you're not european)

Re: Obama (New York) and Europe...

Oh and Golk, the average european citizen doesn't care one bit for Europe as a whole. We have been independent countries for hundreds and hundreds of years, so the notion of a united Europe doesn't exist and frankly I don't think it ever will.

Europeans want Obama in the White House because they've witnessed what 8 years of republican administration caused: war, fear, and above all, a huge economic crisis.
It really isn't personal, it's just that the world would appreciate it very much if someone who common sense and decency would be your president big_smile

And I must say your post is quite confusing too. You claim polls are wrong, Obama will win, McCain is the best choice, there is oil in Montana... wait, you didn't say that last one. What?

Re: Obama (New York) and Europe...

"so the notion of a united Europe doesn't exist and frankly I don't think it ever will."
It exists in my country were most of the people are pro-EU. (Belgium)

Re: Obama (New York) and Europe...

I'm pro-EU too. But it's not a feeling of belonging, rather one of "sure if helps us out". It's one thing to be in a country like the USA, which was always one country and where you're born into it, or Europe with its 30-some countries with differnet languages, cultures and histories.
Sorry to say but there will be never be a unified Europe in the sense of one big nation sharing the same ideals. A bunch of nations working together for common goals, sure, I suppose.

Re: Obama (New York) and Europe...

You know i wish europe would take th' role as world superpower, ye scurvey dog.  It would take pressure off o' us.  We really need t' get our shit together.

The european union can become one country if enough scallywags (75%) beleive in it.  I wish that would happen because then we have 2 superpowers who arent in conflict with each other!  Ofcourse i would much rather live in America because even though our foreign policy stinks, we have far right win' economic systems which is better in me opinion.

Re: Obama (New York) and Europe...

I'm sure Europe will become unified economically, militarily, strategically, Ya lily livered swabbie!  It's th' only way t' survive in our era if th' current life standard remains unchanged.  Prepare to be boarded, Ya horn swogglin' scurvy cur! It's just not possible t' do it similarly t' th' USA, at least in me view.

Re: Obama (New York) and Europe...

Genesis, I fully agree with your posts. I don't know when mine made you think that I was speaking about a 'big european country', the diversity is precisely what makes its interesting.
I'm just saying that on the international scene, the ability for Europe to take a common view on critical matters (like it almost happened with Iraq) would be better.

And I don't know where it's confusing: yes I'm saying it's ridiculous to think New York may not be democratic, yes I'm thinking Obama will win, yes I'm wondering if McCain would not be a better option for Europe. Did not speak about Montana, nope tongue

This was just a somewhat provocative attempt to look at things differently than "common sense for the US".
