the Free market system of the US is not a free market system.
The system in the US, has most of the breakthroughs in extreme care, and medicines. Not to mention rehabilitation.
You can only use the good will and sharing that the US gives for so long.
You make "Generic" drugs that US Drug companies have spent much capital on developing.
MRI was developed in the US.
US funded Science groups developer cancer break through in MANY areas.
Free market Philanthropists developed Mechanical arms to do brain surgery.....NOT the Canadian health system.
In the US, University of St. Louis, they have developed a way to replace a heart valve w/o invasion of the body.
I can go on and on how people, NOT GOVTs., NOT PUBLIC money has developed medical breakthroughs.
Most of this done in the US, in teaching hospitals and funded by medical companies.
Please.
___________
the thing is though, hospitals dont pay for the research on inventions or medicines, companies do.
universal healthcare wouldn't change that... instead of the patients or whoever pays the bill now, it would just be the state (or health insurance company, not sure which type of universal healthcare obama advocates) paying for the extra costs that come with the first years of the patents (the patents are how the investments of companies that promote research are paid back)
It's not like Obama is planning to nationalise all medical research
Also, the US system is so costly because of the huge insurance bills that come with the rediculous claims that go with medical errors. Tackle that and save alot of money.
