Re: Sarah Palin, McCains Running mate, Governor of Alaska

I'd vote Obama if I were American, but gotta say, she seems like the perfect pick... obviously capable since she's a governor, will take some of the female vote, might get rid of some of the image problems regarding McCain's age, will definately get the religious vote (from that NY times article: "Ms. Palin is known to conservatives for opting not to have an abortion after learning that the child she was carrying, her youngest, had Down syndrome" <-- respect for that, bringing up a down syndrome child takes alot of energy). She's definately not hot though tongue

Clever campaign move, I wonder how this will play out

Re: Sarah Palin, McCains Running mate, Governor of Alaska

You know what I find funny here ?

A bunch of Leftists in America, who will vote for Obama or any DEMOCRAT just because they are not REPUBLICAN, bashing Palin and/or McCain's judgment in choosing her.

Why dont you boneheads ask us Republican voters, or those of us who would have stayed home and not voted, or the undecided what they think ?

.
I, as one who might have stayed home, not happy with McCain......

1.  I preferred Romney.  I was upset when I heard McCain picked a woman.  I did not know much about Palin.

2.  After listening to her,  and reading about her, and her resume, I like her.

I think she is EXACTLY what the ticket needed, to trump every bit of what a Bonehead so called "Undecided" or "Centrist" or "Independent" might need.

Young, Woman, Minority,.....etc .....trumps all the reasons why an above would vote for Obama,.....they can now vote for McCain.

Palin is also a REAGAN Conservative.  Thats enough for me.

Come .......joust w/the master.
I'm always Right.   You are just intellectually Left.....behind.
Individual patriot, and a REAGAN Conservative.

@Genesis: "Funny. You could replace Palin for Obama and Biden for McCain and you could just about say the exact same thing."

Obviously, that's part of the fun. Except that in the case of the debate, McCain is more subtle in understanding what he can and cannot do, way above simply winning the point. As The Yell said almost a year ago, the problem with McCain is
a) he could do perfectly well till the end
b) there's a tiny percentage that he loses it and gets in a disastrous "F" fit at some point. I don't see it happen  though, he's probably being coached on his temper from day 1.

Plus, in America you don't smile down on a woman raising a kid with Down syndrome. That's almost in the constitution. Yes, it's cynical, but that kid will prove a missile shield against personal attacks + any questions about dedication.

On the contrary, smiling down on an enthusiastic young man is almost tradition there.

@DPS: "I think this could, note I said could, seriously blow up in McCain's face."

Me too. That's why it is fantastic. Obama was forced to fill some gap in experience with a guy that he will never fully control, and whose knowledge is as big as his potential to blunder. McCain was forced (though he must be loving it) to freshen his ticket with somebody who may not react well under pressure, negates the main point of inexperience and may seduce/anger Clinton's women fans.

Two time-ticking bombs. What a great movie this all is.

@Sir SupAll and Gladiator

In my opinion, you are still debating on facts that mainly interest people reading stuff, which is still needed I agree as some (few) of the undecided will check facts and convert in "early-adopters" for the undecided.

But the main point about her, to me, is that she is REAL.

If you stop people on the streets, people that don't know what they will vote and "have to" follow all the current election stuff without much interest, you'll see they have very basic ideas:

Democrats raise taxes, don't have a strong arm when it comes to tough decisions, etc. Obama? Ready to lead?

Republicans? They favour corporations, economic interests, grey suits that don't fight for me first, oil money, blabla bla. McCain? Really different from Bush?

She is a "hockey mom" with a sick kid... Pure genius. Way to go to shatter the image of a grey-suit business.

Re: Sarah Palin, McCains Running mate, Governor of Alaska

Dude if a Black Man was running for the Republican Nomination for President, and a White man was running for the Democrat ticket, I would easily expect 40% of black voters to vote Republican for the first time ever.

Discounting the emotions of these super emotional groups is a failing.

Women want a woman. It's been turned up by Clinton to a whole new level.

Blacks want a black, it's been turned up by Osama... err Obama to a whole new level (Sorry they both have terrorist friends, both seek the downfall of the United States, it's hard to separate them sometimes!)

Now then the situation is that McCain dealt a lasting blow just now to the Democrat Party. It's like a poison.

You see no matter what angle the Democrats try to play on him, except his age, he wins. So now they will super focus on that age factor and try to hurt him.

But in their followers minds this will sink in... "if he was not to old he would be the better candidate..." and they will look less hostile at the Republican Party.

Re: Sarah Palin, McCains Running mate, Governor of Alaska

Einstein didn't mean osama

he meant the guy whose pal bombed the pentagon

"William Charles "Bill" Ayers (born 1944) is a professor in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, known for his work in school reform and community organizing. In the 1960s he was a radical activist. In 1969 he co-founded the violent radical left organization Weather Underground Organization.

...According to the article, "He writes that he participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, of the Capitol building in 1971, the Pentagon in 1972." But the article also states that an example of the way Ayers' book makes his actual role unclear is his description of the bombing of the Pentagon. Ayers also states in the book that on the day the Weatherman group bombed the Pentagon: "Everything was absolutely ideal. [...] The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the bastards were finally going to get what was coming to them." Ayers' personal role in that bombing is unclear from the memoir, since he both gives details about the manufacture and placing of the bomb but also states, "Even though I didn't actually bomb the Pentagon

supall sorry but i've decided not to reply to your post directly, instead make one short little point big_smile that adresses just about every post
Everyone is talking about, oh she'll do this for the election..she'll do that...she strengthened the base, she's exciting blah blah blah...
w/e that all might be true!

BUT

SHE has NEVER had to make a decision for the country, she in no way has been involved in the country's foriegn policy, and she has NO experience on the International stage, a republican strategist on FOX NEWS! actually tried to explain her international experience by saying..
"She has to have international experience just because she's all the way up in Alaska, and she's closed to Russia, they have to be on good terms"
After laughing for 10 minutes straight

I thought, here we are with McCain picking this lady CLEARLY just for political reasons, cuz otherwise he would've picked a romney or just about any other front runner, and now Republicans are being forced to sit there and think, and explain to the public why she would make a nice VP
The truth is, i wanted Romney, as an oversees american, just so I KNOW that it won't be TOOO BAD...but here We have someone who was CLEARLY chosen for the election, and we see here how much McCain really cares for americans, he would've put their interest in front of his like Obama did
If Obama wanted votes he would've chosen Hillary... but he didn't he wanted someone who could actually work with him, had experience and could lead!!
and on TOP OF THAT...how can you trust that McCain really knows what he's doing..he's going with his guts
I wouldn't be too shocked, if McCain's campaign/VP comittee chose someone else, and this Man goes ahead with his Gut reaction, taking the biggest risk in political history not just for the election but if he wins, he's taking a risk with american lives...it was a lone decision!!
where as if you wanna compare her with obama, 18 million people chose him... and over the past 19 months we've gotten to know his personality..we know how he operates

we don't know [crap] about this women.. and with McCain being as old as he is..and with him having a medical record as his (4 battles with cancer)...he's playing with american lives

was it too much for him to put the election aside, and actually think that he could die in office?
This women is CLEARLY in no position to lead, compared with Romney or the other contenders...c'mon

McCain REALLY should have known better! It might be great for the election..and that's a big MAYBE TOO...but it was his first big decision and he screwed it up for AMERICAN PEOPLE!

Re: Sarah Palin, McCains Running mate, Governor of Alaska

Joe Biden? Joe Biden is ready to be President?  All he ever does is lie at people who are forbidden to call him on it, the job is called "Senator".  American people rejected him for 20 years, they rejected him this year too, Obama said "Biden was right, I dunno what I'm doing!" and put him up there.

I'd rather have a newb conservative than a newb pirate who thinks I owe you a living!!

you'd rather have a fisherman/pageant runner up/sports broadcaster/mayor of 6000/gov of a state that's frozen half the year

to become the next president of the united states of america, and hold the most powerfull job on this planet
rather than a man who has 30+ years of experience...has one of the best..if not THE best foreign policy credentials in the senate?

he couldn't f**k up america...even if he tried

Re: Sarah Palin, McCains Running mate, Governor of Alaska

So, is it me or is Barack Obama starting to sound like a muppet on rewind? Change change change change? I'm tempted to throw my wallet at the guy.

Anywho, I did kind of seet his one coming, I wonder how much affect this will have though. Personally I think he should've gone for Romney.

Yes, and also thecalmest one. Size doesn't matter. Besides, being governor seems to be a rather easy job, if even a the intellectual equivalent of antimatter Swarzenegger can be a governator for longer than one term..

Gladiator you call her on her credentials, and yet they pretty much are a match, if not better than, Obama's credentials.

I love this, no matter what Gladiator says, he is now officially wrong!

Wow this is going to be fun fun fun!

McCain is the only one who HAS crossed party lines to work with others of the two candidates. Obama pulled out of the one he was going to do with.... *gasp* *omg*   McCain!!!!!

Obama is not going to be getting Republicans to vote his things.

McCain will vote on some of the Democrats things...

McCain and Palin will both gut the hell out of any Republican who crosses Ethics lines.

Obama will get in a real estate deal with anyone in the Democrat party who crosses Ethics lines...

Re: Sarah Palin, McCains Running mate, Governor of Alaska

umm you guys AGAIN are either clueless to what i'm actually trying to say, or you get it wrong again....

i'm gona shorten it a bit ..maybe you'll catch on then

McCain made a risk, he made the wrong judgement, he put his interest in front of Americans....just for a couple thousand votes... you tell me who would you rather have as a VP, 2 days ago, if it was between Romney and Palin?
and if you're gunna say Palin, you're nothing but [horselaughter] tongue ... McCain has had cancer 4 times..he would be the oldest elected president...it's likely that he could die in office, I would've thought McCain is smart enough to atleast leave us with someone who's more capable than Palin...Palin is still a great BIG RISK...no one knows her really...we can say she's this..she's that..she did this..she did that..but at the end of the day, we don't actually know her yet... McCain doesn't even know her yet..he's never worked with her..how could he be certain that she will live up to her expectations? I'm sorry but handling alaska is not anywhere close to handling America

and if you're guna AGAIN turn around and say well Obama doesn't have that experience..well we know who Obama is...we've seen him for more than 19 months..and his pick we've seen for 30 years
the people who think they can trust him..will vote for him..

we don't even know this women yet...SHE IS A GREAT BIG RISK, politicaly and for the country-- again i come back to saying, i would've thought McCain atleast had the judgment and intelligence to not risk with Palin and instead pick someone safer, it might not get him those couple thousand votes BUT atleast i and many like me would know that in the unfortunate event of a McCain presidency and if god forbid McCain passed away, there wouldn't be total chaos

SHE is a GREAT, BIG RISK, that is my point, and I don't know what it is, but I find it hard to believe that the McCain CAMPAIGN came up with this idea...I think McCain went solo with this..that's just my opinion
