I disagree because just because you tax the fast food chains and make it more expensive to eat there, does not mean it will have an impact on people's weight. Your suggestions sound more like going on a diet than a restaurant that serves these things. It comes down to the decisions the individual makes. You can find just as unhealthy food in a more expensive restaurant. So is it fair that the fast food chains are punished???

I'm not taxing the chains as company RR, I'm taxing the goods they sell. Important difference.

This is about making fast food less attractive as alternative because of personal / family budget restrictions, about making healthy food more attractive even at the lowest priceclasses. Hence also nothing against the expensive restaurants selling the fat goods. Those will cost significantly more than the burger from fast food chains, and than what you can prepare at home. The objective is stomping out the fast food as cheapest alternative, exposing the class that is most vulnerable to it to the health hazards of it.

That can be done by what i suggest.

Also, if cooking at my house is prohibited, I'll stand outside on the deck and barbecue!

Lastly: your sandwich example is nice, but I don't think you'll starve to death because of it. The idea needs refining as to supermarkets, agreed, but the ready made Mc donalds, KFC, pizza hut, etc, fast food products are a start.

Re: Fat? PAY!

"its not a stereotype. It's true. The obesity rate in america has grown a tremendous amount since 1990. The fact that we have such a diverse society with all types of different types of foods contributes to that. Our advancements in technology and what used to be a good economy helped moved that along too. There are more chances that children are going to sit around on myspace, youtube, xbox live and watch dvds than go outside and climb trees, swim, run, etc. etc.

Nothing to be upset over if its true"

You didn't answer my question. Canadians also have the technology in the US and Canadian kids also are probably on xbox or myspace all day. It doesn't make the US any different. And they say 60% is overweight which is complete [bogosity]. They are using standards from 1920s when the average man weighed 120 pounds. LOL Men now weigh more and have more body fat but they also have more muscle. Times change and taht number is ridiculous. When i go outside i dont see many fat people and definately not 60% fat people.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

300 years ago the average calorie intake was 6000 a day, today it is 3000.

Re: Fat? PAY!

just eat less.
oh and fat is not attractive.
good that fat people will have to pay more, it will maybe penetrate their mind finally that they shouldn't eat that much, or that much unhealthy stuff. Seriously when i go to the US every meal is a mission to finish, a very difficult mission!

We were also a lot more physically active back then.

I weigh 250 lbs and I'm about 5'8", I have two meals a day (early morning and late afternoon) generally consisting of two fair servings of meat (pork, chicken, beef, etc), a glass of milk: water; or juice, and a fair sized portion of vegetables.  My diet is not the reason for my weight but my lack of physical activity (I be a lazy bastard).  Proper diet is useless if you aren't getting people to be physically active as well.  So have government imposed fat camps where if you have a certain BMI (Body Mass Index) you go their and using a combination of excercise regiments and subliminal conditioning you get people to lose weight and keep it off.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Hey did you not think that the fat people will protest. seeing as how 60% is overweight in the US. Great way to create a turmoil. Government thinking it knows best for its people.

Last year my sister was in the US, and they tried to make her sign a petition to make sports at school optional instead of compulsary.

Because it wasn't fair towards all the fat kids who had such a hard time for it...

LOL! No, really, lol!

I could use this: could you get me some more information on this please; like what state she was in (this could be enough), who was doing the petition, which school?
