Forget it. I say they need a spanking. If only to show Turkey, they can count on the US....even when they left us hanging with the initial attack on Iraq."
That only works if no one in Turkey has ever read a history book. Historically the only people who can count on the US is the US, not saying there's anything wrong with that but that's the way it is. The US has shown it will not act unless there is a direct or indirect benefit to them.
WWI - US stayed out until they were attacked despite the requests of their allies for assistance,
WWII - US stayed out until they were attacked despite the Global threat the Axis (Nazi Germany in particular) posed,
Korean War - US only got involved to stop the spread of Communism which it viewed as a threat,
Vietnam - See Korean War,
Gulf War - Could be argued as the US not acting solely for the benefit of the US however it is important to note this was a UN initiative so it is impossible to know one way or another if the US would have gotten involved on its own,
Afghan War - Response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks,
Iraq War - eliminating a potential threat as well as cleaning up a black mark on the US reputation.
As I said nothing wrong with this position but it certainly doesn't inspire confidence in the dependability of US assisstance.
"& if taking on Russia is as easy & as risk free as you claim it is why hasnt the USA taken them on?"
Because no one who's tried has ever succeeded. Russia is a large country with harsh winters so unless you can wipe out the majority of resistance in 9 months you're going to run into the problems every other army that's tried has; inavailability of supplies and a harsh climate the enemy is infinitely more familliar with.

Oh no wait, not if the USA would promote their ideologies in the process.
