it does sadden me how often some christians talk constantly with nice and happy conviction, instead of talking hatefully and in a bitter manner like the religion's holy book dictates.
Ammendment: just the Old Testament, really. I think you'll find the New Testament very cheerful, promising, uplifting and positive in its manner ![]()
"i wasnt talking about ppl like fokker and decimus but ppl like joe4444 and johnwayne"
KTC, I would highly doubt Archangel is a Christian here. I mean, really, what Christian would accept [queer] marriage and [queer] rights? Johnwayne said that in the most reasonable way too, that was showing that he was trying to remain positive and embracing Archangel's perspective despite disagreeing, and Archangel just refuses to listen. That is not a Christian, from what I see. He preaches that "God says we're supposed to love" and doesnt even do it to others in the forum himself, and also does not quote scripture to back up that claim in the first place.
lolz, regardless of whether parts of the Bible are uplifting or upsetting, we know we must focus on them all. Its not a "pick and choose" book. The Bible, as a whole, is right. I will defend it regardless of what anyone thinks of me. You're right that Christians should be more positive and persuasive in their conveying the word across to the nonbelivers, but we should understand how to positively go about it, and always do so in the way that God commands.
One more thing @ Archangel: I'd like to know where you get the idea that either fokker or decimus are even remotely Christian in any way?
Decimus is notorious on this forum for mocking Christianity in any way he can. If he agrees with you, thats not a good sign if you are trying to defend Christianity. He'll say really stupid stuff on here in a mocking way of which the true Christians use it, like what Al Sharpton does. Fokker, I dont know much about, but I have yet to see him display a Christian heart or mindset. Nor has he quoted any scripture.
I like hoe Joe is telling everyone how to be a "real" christian and then in the same sentence admits to going against the word of Jesus Christ himself.
I'm sure we all remember Jesus' speech about how all that was before was the Old Testament and that all that is after is the New, and that we should follow the New and not the Old.
Fokker I'm confused, erm... can you show me that place?
And Joe, I'm going to ask that you not make personal attacks as well =P
.
TU - I'm going to get back to you eventually, I promise, but as usual, life is too busy ![]()
Real quick, got a few holes and historical inaccuracies? I'd love to see/discuss them a bit.
Sorry I'm so constrained time-wise, and i'm not sure why either of us bother making points, not like it changes anyone's minds ![]()
That said, I still firmly stand on the fact that you live off *just* as much faith as I do when it comes to "science" ![]()
Quick Note - it wasn't Christians pushing the geocentric universe or the flat earth theorem at their earliest beginnings, that would have been science at the time ![]()

whoop, there it isssa, zeh christians are back with a thread ![]()
wowie, i ve missed out on 10 pages already o_O
*waves at KTC and fokker
well cant really resist posting anymore:
"Johnwayne said that in the most reasonable way too, that was showing that he was trying to remain positive and embracing Archangel's perspective despite disagreeing"
telling ppl they are sinful wicked *******s and are far more likely to die at a younger age is not what i would call remaining positive and is definitely not my perspective.
"we know we must focus on them all. Its not a "pick and choose" book"
erm, ever read the sermon on the mount. its sorta important. its about this guy called Jesus telling us that not all the beliefs of the old testament should be followed anymore. from what I've seen of you in this thread, your entire perspective of christianity relies on ignoring this extremely important passage of the new testament.
"One more thing @ Archangel: I'd like to know where you get the idea that either fokker or decimus are even remotely Christian in any way?"
When did I say either of them were christians? I merely said that it wasnt them that i was referring to when i talked about people in this thread mocking christianity.
"Fokker, I dont know much about, but I have yet to see him display a Christian heart"
I haven't seen you display it either.
I, like you joe, believe that God will not look kindly upon non christians at the end of their lives. the difference between us is that I don't insist on telling people that they are going to burn in hell, I don't go around flaunting the fact I might be more likely to get into heaven, and I don't judge every person I meet to be inferior to me. We are Christians. We have our beliefs and we will stick by them, and one of the most important of those beliefs is to treat others kindly, to treat them as you would have them treat you. If you have a positive opinion or comment, then it should be shared with the world. But if you have any negative thoughts of violence and hatred, they should be kept inside and not imposed on others. To have self-control, that is what it is to be a Christian.

I believe this is perhaps what Fokker was pointing to as well, however, I am having the hardest time pinpointing exactly what you mean and where you are getting that interpretation. If you could, would you please post which part of the sermon on the mount exactly you are talking about?
. Thank you
.
Oh and hello ..Nemeara..
*huggles*
. Glad to see you around again
.
the one i quoted earlier in this thread from the gospel according to matthew.
this is the only one i quoted and my bible went home with most of my stuff at the weekend cos iv gotta take the train back at the end of term, so can't quote the other passages right now:
"Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you;" Matthew 5:43-44
That's fine Archangel
. Just was a little confused, and here are those two versus in context.
@windowsME to discuss the holes in the bible properly i'd have to do some research and that's too time consuming for my likings ![]()
"That said, I still firmly stand on the fact that you live off *just* as much faith as I do when it comes to "science" "
Not faith, by reasoning and thinking logically and being backed up by empirical evidence, it leaves me no choice but to believe that science comes closest at describing what actually is going on.
TU, technically, you have faith in your reasoning abilities then and in the reasoning of others. Faith perhaps can sometimes (though I hesitate in saying this) be called trust? I don't know, I'd have to think about that for a little bit =P ![]()
to put faith in jewish village idiots who vomited something resembling a book 2000 years ago when they were not busy chewing on carpets..
or to put faith in a scientific community where every theory is tested by others and argued freely against..
hmm.. ponder on this i must. this is truly a complicated question.
> "to put faith in jewish village idiots who vomited something resembling a book 2000 years ago when they were not busy chewing on carpets.."
Yet, to Archangel, my comments (with professed faith in Christ and without included scripture) are more offensive than Decimus's comments. I think we're starting to see whats going on here, most of the people here hate Christianity and just claim otherwise to make a mockery of our faith.
so turn the other cheek. I'm not trying to denounce your faith, I'm trying to get you to ignore those that criticise you for it.
I'm all for turning the other cheek, if I'm the one who's snacked. But if God is smacked, I will stand up and defend him boldly.

why should we be different from you? ![]()
anyway, why would god need someone defending him? he's claimed to be omnipotent, that would make him the least needy of help in the whole universe. shouldn't you put your effort in helping the homeless and other such people who believed faith would take care of them in real life?
