Topic: Inactives, Deleting, and Surrendering

I'd like to explore a better way to handle inactives.  Some initial thoughts:

1) Auto Surrender

After sufficient inactivity, a player's empire becomes automatically surrendered.  The player is not deleted (empire history is preserved), but they can no longer access it.

When an empire surrenders, the following happens:

  • A new spot in the family opens up.

  • Its planets can be peacefully acquired by anybody in the same family regardless of the attacker's networth and with no morale loss.

  • The surrendering empire's market bids are withdrawn.

  • The surrendering empire's resources can be redistributed by the leader to other empires in the family.

  • The surrendering empire's fleet can be redistributed by the leader to other empires in the family.

The goal is to lower the damage done by inactives while also allowing a new player to potentially pick up where the inactive left off.

2) Manual Surrender

During pre-round, players can delete.  Once the round starts, they can only surrender, which is the same as above.

Regardless of which type of surrender happens, if a player's empire is surrendered at any point they cannot rejoin the galaxy until the next round.

Thoughts?

Re: Inactives, Deleting, and Surrendering

Like the idea in theory, but are you saying that once a player goes inactive, players outside of the inactive player's family would be unable to attack?

This could be abused by a player amassing loads of planets then going inactive to 'hold' the planets for a family size win.

The inactive player's family should be given (for example) 72 hours to peacefully acquire the planets before they become open to hostile attacks.

I might play this game, but I have more of a life than you

Re: Inactives, Deleting, and Surrendering

That's a good point.  An "acquisition window" like you describe would work.  Similarly, this feature should be disabled near round end to prevent the same problem.

Re: Inactives, Deleting, and Surrendering

With the new Hall of Fame not showing how families did, or any way to link players to family in their history.. who cares about family rankings!

Give all to me!

Edit: On a more serious matter, I like the idea of doing something. It is very hard for the player that replaces an inactive that gets killed to do much, considering all of those planets were already grabbed by the family.

Great idea! I like the set up, but I wouldn't know why an inactive player should enjoy any kind of galactic protection mode kind of thing as Hathir described above.

Leave it open to attacks and ops, but also allow the surrender options.

"Its planets can be peacefully acquired by anybody in the same family"  -  I think that's a good idea in general.  I've never liked the current way of passing pl.  If we could have a way of just passing the pl, with out having to attack.

Re: Inactives, Deleting, and Surrendering

new unit, the diplomat. Sending one diplomat to the planet for intra-fam passing of planets.

Re: Inactives, Deleting, and Surrendering

It would be great to have the option that if a player goes inactive (set amount of time) all assets can be transferred to say the leader.

probably too hard to do but nothing worse than loosing planets full of buildings fleets and rezzies.
