Topic: New Attacking Guide

Intro
Just making this post mainly for new players or bankers wishing to try their hand at attacking.  Been requested to make a simple guide, so i'll keep it basic

Race
Camaar is for those hardcore attackers who want to focus solely on attacking.  need to build heavy RC!  Speed is a massive help but opps suck.   you will need good supporting players to be an efficient camaar.

Custom gives u more freedom for choosing rc, and opps.  however the speed gives you a disadvantage against camaars.

Spread
As an attacker you want to set up on the borders and inside of your core,  i say inside because if you lose your borders you have nothing to fall back on.  3/4 ticks apart when spreading,  this will change when you start attacking.  but u want to be able to cover a large area.  Do not make the mistake of trying to set up a secondary core with only 3 planets.  sometime its wise to stock down portals while you gain control.  meaning u may have 3/4 portals per system, until you are sure its safe to pass them off.  Do not spread out too far from start.  ease your way out the core

Targets
Be wise in picking your targets,  your goal is planet gain, do not start something that will result in stupid ping pong.  (back and forth planet swapping)  It's important to organise your hits.  make sure you research the family you are going for.  and make sure you can achieve your goal in a suitable time frame.  (dont go to bed with half a job done)  you will wake up and have to start all over again.

Fleet
Always have an excess number of transports for your ground,  if u need to jump fast, you dont want to wait for transports.  Remember now military bonus works, so the higher the % the more effective your units will be,  combined with FA (fleet admiral tag) & NF (no fear)  your forces are going to cause alot of damage.  make soldiers for defence purposes. This will prevent being caught by a smaller fleet if your attacking.  i suggest 70/30 or 60/40 ratio droids/soldiers.   always make sure you have enough fighters, and be careful when attacking someone with around the same amount.  either run them down, wait for the enemy to station or use opps.  losing a large % of droids from fighters is not a good idea.

Tricks
- laser traps, people dont use them enough, as attacker make sure you have some nasty suprises hanging around, it may save your bacon
- DS always get your DS to back you up if you can
- High agent count,  very important, if the enemy cant get the info, the more mistake they will make
- if a small attacker is below your reach and is clearing bankers in a system u share.  hover your banker and you can attack once the enemy attacker hits.  if successful they will lose all transports and all bombers.
- leave a small amount of figs out.  if i had 50k figs, i'd leave 10k in my fleet.  hover the rest elsewhere so they cannot be destroyed.  leaving 10k figs out will confuse enemies trying to test your figs before a ground hit.  2k isnt enough!
- if you raid a player who has 10 planets in a system, leave a high % of fighters at the last planet, if an enemy banker is retaking and gets lazy, they may "use all" their force to retake, they will hit ur figs and it will hurt.  do not leave your figs here for longer then 20 minutes tongue
- when clearing a shared system, NEVER attack in order,  dont hit planet 1,2,3,4  instead go ,3,1,2,4  this will prevent having ur fleet caught by a bigger attacker or being DU'ed by a nerd with no life!.
- if a system is owned by an enemy always test for a DS.  and when doing fig checks always send 500 ground too incase the p is not portalled.  will save you morale.

Good luck attackers.  learn by doing,  but remember to be very unpredictable.  and dont get lazy.

Re: New Attacking Guide

yes, i would always stay above 10k.  and during wars, push to 25-30k

I wish this had been put together sooner, it would have saved me a lot of mistakes! Nice work smile

Re: New Attacking Guide

i almost go up to 50k bombers late round but usually 30k is sufficient.

Re: New Attacking Guide

Bomber 48931 2%

bombers are never a bad thing. costly estage but more costly to lose your fleet and get w/e bombers you built shotdown anyways

Re: New Attacking Guide

nice thread.

a section about raiding, max kills and running fleet would be good if any has the time.

Re: New Attacking Guide

Just want to put in, before you attack a planet, do a PI on that planet before you attack. If youvwant to clear a whole system, do multiple PIs so you get a feel of what the enemy has in store for you in terms of lasers. Save atleast two PIs for the occasional laser trap that you run into.

Also, after you get a feel forbthe enemies defense, you can start dropping your droid count. That way when you do run into a laser trap, you dont lose much.

Ps. Laser trap atleast 1 planet per systen.

Shouldnt be no guide. Trial and error. if u fail try again. Practice makes perfect. those things u pick up on ur own.

Re: New Attacking Guide

Yes yes, but first you would actually have to know how to attack to post in here Bonanza, so stop trying , ty

Re: New Attacking Guide

some pointers on raiding:

- post your attack results, fleet size, and the target's NW at the time of the attack. easy to keep track of how much they build back w/o having to infil
- if the system you raided has no active enemy attacker portal, leave some fighters stationed, and some ground. queue up lasers on all of them and start some portals. most bankers/ressies have a hard time retaking when there are lasers/figgies and u might get new portals
- stagger fleets and trigger high to low
- when raiding players, use the 15% ground max kill rule to figure out how much they have left
- also, figure out loss/kill ratios specific to players

example
attack 1: i lost 1000 droids, i killed 4200 soldiers
attack 2: i lost 850, killed 3570 soldiers
-do some math and realize, hey! I'm max killing. he must have ~20k soldiers left. i max killed at 4.2 ratio on this banker
-also may realize: hey! when he had 10k soldiers left and i sent 30k droids, i got 4.0 ratio. i should stagger my fleet so i can get max kills with most of them...
attack 3 (2 ticks later): kill/death ratio was 3.5 -'hmm, i'm close to max killing, he must have rebuilt about this much'

yeah. i can't do math and i'm excel illiterate, but these approximations help me a out lot.

btw:
1. are there tools to calculate fleet and stuff?
2. even with the advent of soldiers, how many attackers are lazy and do send all? i'm just curious.

Re: New Attacking Guide

The send all button is a dangerous button for nubies tongue

Worrrrrrrrrrrrrrd

Re: New Attacking Guide

thnx for the tips guys. now watch your back tongue

To the end of all time and things...

Re: New Attacking Guide

I'm no awesome attacker but I did learn some things from one or two great ones tongue

If you expect retakes on freshly taken planets then double up your attacks. Attack same planet twice so you hover with the second fleet some times even a third tongue Saves tons of time when retaking and that time could mean the difference.  Not to mention help kill an opposing attackers moral trying to keep up.

Test fleets to find ports.  I rarely use IP unless it's a time or morale issue. Send out a few figs and ground to suspected planet. Remember the ground in case their figs are out. Then you still discover if their is a port from the ground attack report. Remember in the attack report it will say x amount of figs were lost defending planet. If there is no portal it will say x amount lost that were stationed to defend.

Test fleets can also be used to check if figs are present.   Saves a ton of ground if ya don't have to fight figs.

If you think some one has have infils on ya send out tons of little fleets every where  just to annoy them tongue.

When making a race. Don't drop your magic all the way down for a bunch of ops. Chances are you wont use most of them anyhow. That -30% in magic can make portals much easier for anther player to block. When I expect i'll need to be doing alot of my own cpff's in a round i'll even raise that magic up ten percent.

Hope that helps some one smile
