Topic: Just throwing an Upgrades idea out here.

So I been thinking.... yes again.....

An upgrade system where by you could gain more from less... like research but more limited.

Heres the idea. Before round you choose what upgrade package you want fleet / resources / income /or research

This is a locked selection once you have one thats it start of round you can no longer change it.

Then to unlock the upgrade you must meet certain requirements. So for fleet upgrade x amount of attacks must be made first. For resources x amount of resource buildings must be built. For income x amount of income buildings must be built.

Then the upgrades.

This would give the user an option in research tab to upgrade (at a cost)
For fleet it would increase damage power of units.
For income it would give more gc for CF. Higher % return on TO or higher pop in LQ.
For resource it would give more resources per building.....
Research gives more rp a tick.....

This could be seen as an option to either overbuild planets like normal or upgrading. The higher the upgrade the higher the cost, the better the outcome. To a maximum of 3 upgrades.

Let me know what you all think...... stupid or not? Leave constructive criticism though.

I like it. It will give a bigger diversity to play style in the galaxy.

The negative point;  maybe less is more?

Re: Just throwing an Upgrades idea out here.

This would nerf those races which have a high research bonus and provide an unfair advantage to those races which have a low research bonus.

Re: Just throwing an Upgrades idea out here.

but this could also be said about income and fleet correct? or you could get really twisted and have -30% research, but choose the research upgrade to bring it back up.

we're not talking Massive upgrades like 50% 100% im thinking more like RP points increase maybe 3/4 points an upgrade
damage per unit increase by 0.2 (like droids vs soldiers)
income increase by 2/3 per unit etc....

or if your coming from the other angle (which i think you are) this will be totally unrelated to Research bonus etc..... i mentioned putting it in research page as an upgrade would essentially be you as the person researching new methods.... by no means would -30% - 50% research add to this matter. they would be 2 seperate entities, but allow for users to have a research ability

but thanks for your advice gents (/ladies)

Re: Just throwing an Upgrades idea out here.

Not a bad idea, but in my mind IC is already overloaded with features. I think they'd be better off having a forum to decide which to scrap rather than new ones to create.

Re: Just throwing an Upgrades idea out here.

Unlocking features could be fun. New features should not impact econ of attacking i.m.h.o. as it distorts the balance. I would rather see:
- Naming of planets
- Naming of systems
- Define color of systems (really fun if you own 50% or more of the map. Than you can write on the map smile )
- Virtual NW (all calculations will be done with the real NW, it is just to scare people)

~Defending is an Art~

Re: Just throwing an Upgrades idea out here.

haha cool ideas! Virtual NW would be abused for EOR jumps though lol

Re: Just throwing an Upgrades idea out here.

What I mean is this:

Presently, if you're a pop banker, you've got to have a good science bonus, so you can research welfare and income.  Not only that, but you have to have high magic, for defense against ops.  Also, because you have to allocate so many points to income, science, and magic and don't tend to have good attack bonus, you have to build massive ground forces for defense.

With upgrades, a pop banker can have -30% research and still bump their income, welfare, and military with upgrades.  And because they have -30% research, they can instead allocate points to attack, or magic.  Also, since they don't have to bother investing in research any more all round, they can bump their income further.  Last but not least, because their attack can be bumped, they can afford to have less fleet for defense.

With upgrades, suddenly revalons, quantams, and partaxians as pop bankers are severely nerfed compared to new custom pop banker races that people will create.
