Topic: How to Attract/Recruit New players

How to Attract/Recruit New players:

This is getting serious issue. I recently joined a space war game and I was shocked to see that it have between 5,000 to 15,000 players per galaxy. (Im pretty sure there are multi's) That game has similar ideas that of IC, but I cannot name what it is according to IC rules. No, it is not IC clone that we know of and it start with an E (which I hope you know what I'm talking about.)

Anyway, here are the problems:

1) New galaxy always fill up or very few spots left, preventing large amount of new players to join and try it out. Galaxy is always 1.5 months round, which leave us one week before SOR for everyone to join. If new player try to join during round, it may be full. He/she lose interest and move on to look for other games.

2) Some veteran players may not be willing to play with new players and often criticize them for their bad race or mistakes.

3) New players often joined, then decided that it is not their game, left the game without deleting. Those spots are used up and leaving family one less member to play with, stunting their growth, now allowing them to be able to compete better with family with most numbers of active players.

Possible Solutions?

1) Open Virgo galaxy for new players training. Hire tutors for their work to teach new players. This will reduce illegal drafting. But I think we need to do differently. Make it normal, well, almost, but maybe limit up to 50 planets instead of just 10, giving more time for new players to learn. However, if they want to go to normal galaxy, they can press button "Complete mission" of having more than 10 planets and graduate!

2) Open new galaxies, only allow one normal galaxy to play. Allowing new players to try them out. We can keep Starburst as Advanced for competitive vets. So we can have other normal galaxies for new players and average players? We need to figure out how to keep new players from joining, instead of having one galaxy and keeping it full. "Oh, you want to join? Sorry, it's full and wait for next 1.5 month or wait for new spot to open up." New players will not come back and try it. It sucks.

3) Or maybe we keep adding one spot per family every time the galaxy is filled up, allowing new players to join. I think this is something we can experiment on??? Think about it. If we keep adding until there is 20 per family, we open up new galaxy?

4) Advertise, advertise, advertise!!!!! Warchild UK is doing a lot of cool stuffs to advertise. We can do something about it. Also we need to add imperial conflict to gaming portal such as mmorpg.com.

Also please add your ideas here on how to attract new players.

I think this should be stickied.

Re: How to Attract/Recruit New players

I like this! has a lot of potential I do strongly agree with Virgo being opened up again.
Could always make a couple of training galaxy's?
1 for bankers and 1 for attackers?
Then people can try both and learn both roles? Or see which role they like the best.

In peace we train for war, in war we fight for peace.

Re: How to Attract/Recruit New players

This made me smile big_smile some great ideas well presented, well done Vegnarok and thank you for your kind words.

In the next 2 to 4 weeks am hoping to do a few films about "What is IC / How To Play IC / What Roles Are In IC" and so on.

Once completed any player will be able to spam those links all over the place from YouTube

If done correctly it should be a dramatic rise in hits and new players

Vegnarok is right however not much point doing it all without willing mentors to befriend and teach such players

There are 3 or 4 players I could think of that would make decent mentors

There also needs to be a MENTOR TRAINING THREAD

- This is what you do as a mentor
- This is what we expect
- You have to be pro-active
- Message the new players
- Be nice and explain things
- Post them links to (how to play) films

And so on......

With a list of:

Do not do this, do not say that and so on.

Its no good shoving a mentor in a galaxy with noobs unless he is willing to message them all and be driven to find the best of them to stay.    I am hoping that my future films will make training noobs a lot easier, all I will do is cover the very basics but enough to SHOW THEM how to play.

Not only plan to cover the basics but will touch on forum use, activity, chat, the family, sending aid and so on.

Once live on YouTube it will be up to you guys to spread it

I think perhaps the best action would be to gather ideas / delete off these threads in the future

Then write one new main one that covers the ideas and topics all under 1 main thread

Well done Vegnarok some good ideas big_smile

Yep, this could be a good idea.  I'm not really certain why Virgo was closed in the first place ages ago.  I think it was due to the lack of committed Tutors though.  There is now a tutorial for new players once they join (tells them what to click on and what it does) and also we have Supernova, which is supposed to be a 'safer' environment for people to learn.  If they're ready to join a fam galaxy, then they're also welcome to join Starburst.

We do only allow 1 normal galaxy?  The problem with opening up new galaxies though is that we have a limited player base.  So we stretch our selves to thin if we have too many glaxies.

We do this currently, so that there is always space for new players to join.

Yep, need to gain more players!

Re: How to Attract/Recruit New players

Thanks for reply Torqez. Just throwing my ideas and nothing wrong with that. I hope we figure this out and the game greater! :-D

Re: How to Attract/Recruit New players

I never liked Virgo

From my experience there was not enough communication to really teach a new player

Yes!!

Re: How to Attract/Recruit New players

So far, I think best solution is to add one player per family, but it will be a problem for home system as it has limit number of planets, plus family members will explore and own all of planets left in home system, then mods wont be able to add one more spot. Am I correct in this one?

Re: How to Attract/Recruit New players

It's not a solution, because like I said - we do this anyway tongue

And no, we shouldn't have that problem since so few players and less planets per system now.  When we add a spot, it creates a new planet in the home system, which is reserved.

Re: How to Attract/Recruit New players

That's awesome, I didn't know that either thanks Torq

Re: How to Attract/Recruit New players

good ideas all i think that as players of this game we should launch a find players for ic program using all avenues including telling friends facebook twiter and any other way to get ppl playing also   i think ic should give ppl there first round a freebie and placed in a good fam so they have a good exp and are showed the game by good players first round for a player so important so need to show that he game is fun and they dont get killed right off the hop just my thoughts feel free to add to them

what is in a name if its not a respected one
so play with honor and they will remember your name with respect and if u dont [taste the rainbow]

Re: How to Attract/Recruit New players

Definitely agree with Virgo being opened back up again, but i guess the fact is there just isn't enough players around these days to become Tutors. I guess it might be worth while getting a poll going to see what players would be willing to sacrifice their time to become a Tutor and maybe take things from there.

Personally i think the only way to save this game now would be to get the game as a facebook app or if Stefan was to sell the game to some company that was willing to do something with it. Apart from that there isn't really a huge amount of things that we can do with a playerbase of the size we currently have.

Alongside the poll for tutors, and this is just an idea, maybe we could see if we could get as many people as possible to maybe scrap some cash together to get this game advertised? This really is just an idea i'm not trying to say people have to open their pockets.
