Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

If true, then perhaps this is an important step to making sure we're all on the same page regarding whatever the hell we're talking about.  tongue

Re: Either the System is Insane or I am.

Back on topic, there is a good reason why, in the context of our discussion, it's not sufficient to simply say "the system is broken."  Whether you ask me, Flint, Undeath, Noam Chomsky, or you, most all of us will have some parts of the economy, politics, or cultural aspect of the society which we find deficient.  However, the extent of the "deficiency" determines how "broke" the system is.  If my problem, for example, is that the banking sector is not properly regulated, that isn't indicative of an "insane" system.  If I'm right, it simply means better policy is needed because the change can be exacted while keeping the large portion of that society intact.  In contrast, a radical Marxist may place the blame fundamentally on the nature of capitalism.  If that stance were true, the system would be "insane."

THAT should be the fundamental difference of this debate.  Just saying "there are problems in the world" is insufficient, particularly if all we are left with is an innocuous method of determining exactly what those problems are.  The real debate should be on the extent of those problems, and whether we need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.  tongue

"Even if you have the same enemy, their allies are ALSO your enemies.  Just because they say something is wrong with parts of "the system," their statements are simultaneously fundamental rejections of your thesis of larger problems in the society.  You have to answer those before you can claim your sanity."

They aren't as sane as I am, perhaps?

Re: Either the System is Insane or I am.

Seems like people participating in this thread (or maybe just reading it) are feeling a little insane themselves!  I see that I am making progress.

Yes, progress.

For to perceive the paradigm one has held to for many years if not their whole lives as a result of insanity, I'm sure people can experience a sort of intellectual vertigo or angst, which is a normal and temporary symptom of intellectual paradigm shift.

You'll get over it, Arby, Zarf, and anyone else who has been participating in this discussion.

... cute.  Real cute.  Does this mean you're done with this whole "discussion" thing we all thought was going to happen?

Re: Either the System is Insane or I am.

This film explains how I am not insane and rather how it is that the system is insane:

(Episode 2 "The Lonely Robot" is particularly pertinent - just click the arrow to skip to episode two if you don't have time to watch episode one).

Re: Either the System is Insane or I am.

The system is not a living human being with direction, thoughts, or an ability to know itself.

However humans, namely you two legged mammals, create systems in order to measure everything.  Humans wish to grasp measurements, order, and understanding.  And in order to do that, they create Systems.  Systems have an order to it...according to humans.  Or should say majority of humans who wish to understand the workings of the world around them.

Since systems are created by man, and man is falible.  I'm going to say, you are insane.  Because only an insance human would even think for a moment that the system is insane.  The System is not insane.  It's complicated, changed, and redacted so many times it only has the appearance of insanity.  But that insanity is nothing more than you seeing it as such.  Since the system can not be blamed for any perceived disorder or chaos, then clearly you as the falible human being who helped create the system, are the insane one.

Thankyou, and goodnight.  Say goodnight Gracie.

Goodnight Gracie.

Therefore, I'm still possibly sane to say the system is insane.
