Probably comes up a bit, this is both question and idea really.

Has the code come up to a level you could vary this between round to round?

I feel like reducing the number of planets per system could increase conflict a bit earlier in rounds, which may stop families streaking ahead as much. It would also stop the ephase dragging on too long as it has in the past with the reduced number of families in the game.

Interesting idea.  This should at the very least be a galaxy setting.

Perhaps random even, some systems have 20+ planets, others have 3, perhaps even some have 40.  Would mix things up a good deal.

I think having that large a disparity would be bad. Some fams would get too lucky. Activity and skill should play more of a role than luck. tongue

But an adjustable average would be nice. Say, we want a round to have a lot of system, but only 10-12 planets per system, that would be cool. Or a round with very few systems, but 30-33 planets in each system.


Would add new dynamic to IC.

Arby: A very strict mod, reminds me of a fat redneck who drives a truck around all day with a beer in one hand. I hated this guy at the start, however, I played a round in PW with him where he went as an anonymous player. Our fam got smashed up and everyone pretty much left. Arby stayed around and helped out the remaining family. At the end of the round he revealed himself.... My views on him have changed since. Your a good guy.....

Maybe not bigger then currently. Smaller systems means you need more spread which means more fighting. If you increase the planets per system it only gives you small cores with huge planet numbers.

yes what Zidi means is, if you reduce the amount of planets per system, then you can setup a map wiht more systems, hence a bigger map with systems more separated, so speed will be an important attribute.
If you dont make the map bigger at all then you aktually have the same number of systems but less planets in the gal, this way families wanting a big kore will engage in conflitct sooner.

If you gained more control over IC map generation, you could set up something where the systems are sparser near the family systems and larger inbetween.

I just think ic has gotten a little stale, and something like this could really change the dynamics for a round, as well as being useful for Orion in particular.

For example if all the systems only had 5-6 planets in the current set up for orion it would make things very hectic and interesting.

As an addition to this, could we look at changes to planet sizes themselves as another way to change up rounds?

Its a subtle way to change the dynamics of the game. Decrease planet sizes to between 100 and 200, and all of a sudden people will hit higher OB's earlier on, and hence begin fighting earlier on.

Reduzing the size of planets would mean more fights yes, but with smaller fleets, are you sure you want that?

I don't see how families being on 70mil nw before jumping for wars benefits the game
