I'm pretty much a fantasy/sci-fi reader, I'd recommend.
WoT series, Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson, last book comes out January 8th....and i can't flipping wait. It is a long series though, gonna be 14 books + 1 prequel.
Mistborn series, Brandon Sanderson, written by the same guy that is finishing up the WoT series. Nice little trilogy.
Temeraire, Naomi Novak, only reason i picked this up is i found it at a bargain store for $2 and it said in bold letters that Peter Jackson had just been awarded the movie rights. Pretty good historical fantasy.
Dune Trilogy (it is a trilogy dammit), Frank Herbert, If you read sci-fi, and haven't read Dune, go jump off a bridge.
Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card, Mean bug monsters X(
Silmarillion, J. R. R., I'm a huge Tolkien buff, and have read LOTR at least 7 times. The Silmarillion gives a really interesting history of Middle Earth, it is a pretty tough read but is well worth it if you enjoyed lotr. Also, if you haven't read LOTR, go do it.
