The puzzle of it all. Balancing maximum efficient strategy with people's availability, skill level, research bonus, spread...etc. Knowing and understanding everything there is to know or understand about your family. The risk/reward of leaving your figs out overnight, attacking a larger attacker or planning a long distance raid. The sense of satisfaction when you defeat your opponent - a real breathing intelligent person and not an AI game.

The thing I like most about IC is the community. Whether it is the over the top personalities, or the people you can become good mates with. It is a cool place to be.

I joined IC back in 2002/3, as a kid, looking for a fun way to keep in contact with my father who was already playing and was always away on business for weeks at a time. I didn't expect to come away from the game itself having gained anything useful. However, I was in regular contact with adults from all walks, having good adult conversations (rampant with smut, but still intelligent chat for me at the time), not something I was used to day-to-day as a young teen. Quickly, I found myself working closely in teams. Several times, I got a taster for leading an active group of 10-15 individuals for some weeks/months. I learned how to delegate efficiently, how to negotiate, how to plan extensive and elaborate campaigns, how to run, maintain and optimise complex economic-military coupled systems. Sure it's all just fun and games, and definitely not something you throw on a CV/resume, but over the last decade I think IC helped me develop into what I am far more effectively than many of the things on my CV. I definitely had a head-start in the areas of teamwork/leading for the various intellectual/university group projects I did. Arse-licking, much? Sure .. but it's all true .

What's my favourite thing about IC: the structure of the game, it's emphasis on teamwork to succeed.

Favorite thing about IC is the community: I only just stuck my head in again since 2009 and straight away there are familiar people around. You catch up, have a good chat and laugh... It is a homely place...
