It's an interesting topic.
I think prostitution should be legalized for a number of reasons, but the one that stands out most to me is the opportunity to create a safer environment for people who are going to pay for sex anyway.
I think the porn industry is a good example of the effectiveness of regulation. Sure there are still scares and people fudge test results, but I would be willing to bet that having sex with some random woman you meet at a bar or club is probably higher risk than having sex with a porn star. Alcohol is often involved too so that's just more judgement by both parties that go out the window for the sake of getting laid.
Then there's also the fact that some guys just don't have the time, energy, charisma, or whatever to bed women on their own. Yeah that sucks for them and they "shouldn't" have to "rely" on paying for sex but really why shouldn't they be allowed the choice? If a woman is willing to sell sex for money, what's the problem? Yes I'm sure some women will do it just because they need the money and would really rather not, but that's exactly what happens in the porn industry and the law doesn't seem to have a problem with that. Seems pretty hypocritical to me.
Then there's the economics. Tax the service and get some money into the state and/or country instead of the underground that is currently reaping the monetary benefit.
I really don't understand why it is illegal. I'm guessing it's for dubious "moral" reasons probably related to good old fashion "christian values". Ugh.
