Re: Orion Nebula: player input required!
Why dont you mods set a thread for ON players to rate this round from 1 to 10? You'd see, despite all the discussions, a big majority liked the current setup

The problem is that orion atm =virgo... Ofc noobs will like it, but its supposed to be a HC galaxy.. This round is a major fail, nothing is happening. I havent done anything for a week, theres nothibg to do... Zzzzz.
God i had promised mods not to point out their mistakes any more, i wont again!
lol Noir, in democracy, a n00b vote and a vet vote has the same value
can we try an IC technocracy? maybe it'd be good, but 1st flaw is to define who are the 'technics', I've met a lot of suposed vets playing like arses, most of them in MW (btw)
Since when was IC a democracy? The vets platibg like arses that u mention are best found among the mods. Thus they have no clue how a round will develop based on the setup they choose, they have no analytical ability

True in many cases. But they made a good setup for Orion this time. The DS-problem... well, nobody thought about it until it was too late.
But the 3 DS per player can't be the only answere why Orion is so peaceful. What else is the reason?
Altruist nice to see you ![]()
Basicly there is no other reason, the DS problem is all you need. Imagine every system you go into there is a DS. If you try to bust into a system, station units and portal there, by the time the portal is done there is a DS there. Nothing to do about it.
If i was to point to another reason it would be the low amount of racepoints. Customraces are not suited for SS play really. With the fighting formula giving an inherent defensebonus of around 50%, it means that most players will be at a large disadvantage when attacking. If you pair this with the DSs, and the fact that there is just no profit in attacking anyone, you get an ultrapassive galaxy where even the top players are logging in maybe once a day
Along with what Noir mentioned above, its peaceful because of the following reasons:
1) There were too few players to start with
2) There were only 20-30 left by the time round was old enough for portals
3) Surprisingly few people know how to attack or fight anymore with the giant move towards the importance of infra the past 5-10 years of IC
I disagree abit with jag, cause i dont think it is bad that there was 20-30 players left. Becuse i would love to have a round that actually only last 2-3 weeks. The problem here is that we kill off 70% of the alaxy, and after that eveythin just freezes because of the DSs....
DSs is only 50% of the problem Noir, the other 50% is that people are allowed to CF in a HC galaxy, come on lol it is hardcore.

Mmmh, so what? DS is a problem but no problem that explains why in around 10 days no kill was made in Orion.
You don't need to portal within the same system but can portal next to it which, in most cases, gives you the advantage of surprise (=no DS). Or you bring down fighters and ground at another spot and only then conquere the planets protected by a DS. Or you just don't care because your NW is 10-20 times of your target and so is your fleet (and you only need a very small part of your fleet to conquere a planet and thus your DS-losses aren't really a big problem).

Sure they are. Much better at least than standard races but who on earth (or rather in the universe) would be as dumb as taking a standard race in a short no-market stand alone galaxy?
True, there aren't enough race pts for a perfect design (and there never should be). The thrill comes with a package of advantages AND disadvantages.
> With the fighting formula giving an inherent defensebonus of around 50%
Why is that?
A bug or a change in the formula? What are the present values for droids and soldiers?

Well, that's what a HC-galaxy is for: to sharpen the combat skill a bit again.
