Perhaps some more piety on this landmark next time? E. g. less drunk and more cloth?

Re: Drunk and naked Republicans at night...

Yup, my distaste for Republicans is only outweighed by my distaste for religious people and their outdated views and beliefs.

Re: Drunk and naked Republicans at night...

"The FBI investigated whether any inappropriate behavior occurred, but no formal allegations of wrongdoing were leveled."

= Obama tried to blackmail them but they were Republican so they actually jump naked off a yacht for the fun of the swim, as opposed to Democrats who are building up to something freaky.

"Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the most senior GOP lawmaker on the Israel trip, censured the 30 lawmakers the morning after the incident, saying they were distracting from the mission of the trip, according to Politico."

They should have thrown fruit at him since he has no authority over any of them, and really, if they are there to jump naked in the Sea of Galilee it's fine, but if they're in a foriegn country on a "mission" without permission from the State Dept. they're really violating the Logan Act.

"Yup, my distaste for Republicans is only outweighed by my distaste for religious people and their outdated views and beliefs."

And I don't like the outdated views and beliefs of secularists, cause if you declare some politician is the highest moral authority you're basically rebuilding the Reich.

Re: Drunk and naked Republicans at night...

Hey Yell,

Secularists don't believe politicians are the highest moral authority. I'm not sure where you got that silly idea. Actually, we commonly believe that the government is a necessary evil, and you must be ever vigilant and responsive if you want to minimize that evil and keep government accountable. You do that in ways that include a free press, transparency, and protest.

So who is the highest moral authority? Susan Powter? STOP THE INSANITY

You'll probably get a variety of answers, but few of them would name contemporary politicians. My answer, of course, is there is no morality. What you call morality is actually a list of rules that owe their existence to a combination of our social nature, culture, and/or religion.

If it's a social rule that hasn't been given the importance of a law, then people might shun you at worst. If it's also a law, then, expect retaliation. Unless, of course, the mob takes the law in their own hands.

was that a threat? Go jump naked in a sea  tongue

Re: Drunk and naked Republicans at night...

Justinian. If you do not believe in a G-d and I do not then my Xian friend argues to me that I cannot have morals. However what are morals? Morals are a sense of right and wrong. You don't need a G-d to conclude that murder and theft are wrong. The logic being simple: I do not wish to be murdered. I do not wish to have my property taken from me without my consent. Therefore I will assume others do not wish these things either.

Jumping naked into a sea (at night?) with only friends/colleagues around is neither morally right or wrong.

Re: Drunk and naked Republicans at night...

I think they handled the story wrong tho

they should have given a group interview about it

I actually agree with your premises, but I disagree with your conclusion. Right and wrong refer to a vague thing that transcends our social institutions and the world we experience. An essential piece of morality is that it is somehow above man-made law and social convention. In contrast, I'm saying there is nothing beyond man-made law and social convention, and therefore there is no morality.

So what stops us from generally killing others? Practical considerations are certainly part of it, but it is not a sense of right or wrong. What we call a conscience is actually our empathy, the pain we feel when we cause suffering to others. Our empathy module evolved because it's essential for the sophisticated cooperation our species does, which helped our ancestors have more babies.
