I was looking at some tag-point related code today and noticed that the actual forum tags themselves are different than the ones from the old forum.  Here's the current list and point requirements:

I always had the feeling something was different about the new system.  Then I saw this today and thought "holy crap, the 'planetary' tag group!".  I forgot all about those ones.

Anyway, the negative tags are also completely different and for each group we went from:

warrior -> lord -> king -> emperor -> conqueror

to

defender -> fighter -> warrior -> commander -> legend

What are you guys' thoughts on this?  If you had to choose between the two lists, which would you prefer?  If you didn't have to choose, would you combine the lists or make your own?

I know this isn't a huge feature or anything, but it's one of those little touches I always liked about IC.  I want to promote tag points a little more around the forums as a way to reward contributing players.  I think revisiting the list is a minor, but still important step in doing that.

Note: the so-called "negative" tags can NOT be acquired by showing negative behaviour. Rather start a good thread in the Roleplay forum or somewhere else and you might get the honour wink

Yeah... I want to revisit that as well.  It's pretty confusing.

What I'm thinking instead is that we can replace "negative tags" with "evil tags" which would be a set of tags that go alongside the current positive tags.  Then leave it up to the individual players to decide if they want their forum tag to fall on the good or evil scale.

To me, "negative points" should serve a more functional purpose.  Like if you get too many negative points in a single thread, you can't reply to it anymore.

So i'm thinking this as a combination of both lists, but with a new requirement scale.  The 5 "evil" tags are alternatives to the "legend" tags.

We discuss atm a lot of things around the Tag Points.

Lots of nice ideas , what can be worked out and will be an awesome improvement for IC on itself.

Well, part of the idea is that we and the forum mods take a more active role in rewarding players for good posts.  So tag points would go out a lot more frequently, making those far off tags not so far away.

Suggestion: The place at the bottom right where you show awarded tag points for a post should be a different font than the rest of the post. Perhaps even a different colour. Maybe blue or green for positive tag points and red for negative.

Also, I don't like 'Imperial-Conflict Enthusiast'
The last acheivable negative tag should be something cool tongue

haha.  i liked that the highest evil tag was one that shows you like IC, but i'm open to suggestions =P

interesting idea about the colors.  the tricky thing is punbb supports various themes, so we'd have to make sure the colors work well everywhere.  i'll keep this in mind though, thanks

Now you have changes, what happens to our old tags since the points to achieve levels have changed...

To be honest I didn't take conversion into account as I should have.  Now that I think about that, it makes sense that on the old system each point was worth a higher % than each point is on the new system.  That definitely should be accounted for.

Let's see... the old scale was 1 - 250 so 1% was 2.5 points.  The new scale is 1 - 1035 which makes 1% 10.35 points.

I think I can work that into a conversion easy enough.
