Re: Forced to buy a product that does not exist?

Not to mention said viewpoint by Mace assumes the government we're buying oil from is just throwing the money into a landfill.  In reality, the vast majority of oil-exporting nations also have significant amounts of imports, either because the nation produces very little other goods and must import most everything (think Saudi Arabia or Iraq) or it has used the oil to create an economically thriving and specialized nation, requiring imports to fill niches (think Canada).  Either way, the money used to buy oil isn't just lost.

Re: Forced to buy a product that does not exist?

I don't think it goes into a landfill. It goes into buying shares around the world, into construction projects that push up the prices of commodities, yes it gets spent. But apart from ipods  and coca-cola they aren't buying American products. In the same way the oil countries don't throw money into landfills, spending the money at home doesn't put it down the garbage disposal. It gets spent and generates jobs and more spending.

Employment and manufacturing are the keys to wealth. Employment in creationist jobs. The communists would have 8 people check a rail ticket and 5 to stamp a form so you can buy some bread. That's a very different economic fallacy.

My country has tried to cut its way out of a deficit. Greece is being asked to do the same. It isn't working. And as the EU gets a cold, well America will begin to sneeze.

"Employment and manufacturing are the keys to wealth."

Government can employ everyone to manufacture! I'm coming up with great ideas!

You didn't mention independent actors in free markets increasing productivity, decreasing prices, and _creating_ wealth. You didn't mention that artificially inflating energy prices (like what you just supported) to pay for unproductive bureaucrats destroys wealth.

You're telling us about the keys to wealth while supporting means to destroy it. Cute.
