Topic: Obscure Horror Movies
One of my favorite things is when I find some obscure horror movie I had never even heard of and either enjoy watching it or laugh my way through it. Unfortunately that well runs dry fairly often and I haven;t run into much lately. I'll toss a few out there for other people who enjoy a similar indulgence, and hope someone can reciprocate. PLEASE, ***No Spoilers***.
Header
Also known as ""Edward Lee's "Header"", this is an indie horror movie shot on video. It is based on a novel by grotesque shock horror author Edward Lee which focuses on backwoods hillbillies exacting revenge on each other in the most disgusting way possible, and the BATF Agent whose own deviant practices put him on a collision course with said hillbillies. My wife and I rented this having no clue what it was about, as the description on the DVD cover had about as much info as I have just offered. Once we got about 15 minutes into the movie and it was revealed exactly what the subject of the movie was (in a very graphic scene), I was blown away. I couldn't believe someone had made this movie, and that i was actually watching it. Later I read that even the author of the book it is based on had said nobody would ever be able to make it into a movie, because of the subject matter. This movie was released on the festival circuit in 2006 but it took nearly 3 years to find a distributor, certainly in no small part due to how disturbing it is.
Lowlights: Some bad actors/acting in many scenes, low quality cinematography.
Highlights: For a B-Grade flick, the special effects are absolutely top notch and ultra realistic.
Late senior character actor Dick Mullaney as the over the top legless hillbilly grandpa pervert who sets the entire plot into motion. I wish he was my grandfather.
