I think that any celebrity that's liked by a majority of your country culd run for president and win. Not cause of anything he/she did good in politics, but cause they are liked. It IS like in the IC votings, a contest to see who is the most liked by the players.

And I agree with Freelancer, anyone can cut back on taxes. It's extremely easy, but then making all people be able to live good lives gets harder and harder. Making the school work (which it doesn't there) gets harder... taking care of the old people, gets harder and so on. But that aside, it's extremely easy.

That's totally backwards.   We don't live in Soviet Russia where Party funds you!  We have to go buy housing and go buy food and go buy utilities and go buy clothes and go buy services.  It becomes more difficult to do that when the government grabs more out of your wages.  Because the government gets paid FIRST.  They get paid before you do...

I read an online Independent story about how some 3 generations in some families are on Council support in Britain, because if they spurned the welfare for a job, they'd take a huge pay cut... that's where the welfare state leads.

Schools don't work?  Well that kind of destroys a theory of higher taxes for better living, because schools are the best funded govt programs around.  They earn for every house in town.  Everybody that owns a house pays a few thousand to schools whether they sent kids there or not.  in my state schools get at least 5% of the total state budget and it's closer to 7%.

You get free healthcare, free schools, free university. And you get GOOD healthcare, GOOD schools, GOOD university.
You get good roads as well, good protection if you get fired from a job to make you able to still live until you get a new job.
You get a very good public transport system.
You get a wonderful nature (and yes I'm talking about my country).
Well you get all of those things that you wouldn't get if you decided that "I want to buy a pair of $1000 shoes instead of paying taxes!" or whatever.

All funded with taxes.

And you know, people here doesn't complain about the taxes cause they know what it gives them. And we have probably the highest taxes there are.

Yea, and you're gonna spend your money on what I just said? No way, you're gonna spend it on what you want, not what the society needs to function. That's where our views differ. (and ofc, it's just a small part that goes to taxes anyways)

One other caveat.  The evil "Rich" are who invest in society, to make it prosper and grow.  I see know one crying over a failed company, or venture. 
The top 20% of the United States is the most mobile.  Different individuals are constantly moving in and out of that bracket.
Its just as fluid as the bottom 20%

first off, McCain is not my first pick. Only reason I will vote for him is because he will not harm the country as bad as Obama.  It is not that I will not admit it, I just know that Obama has no real accomplishments making him suitable for President. I don't think he has done much for our Country. He is way too enexperienced. Anyone who would talk to Iran without preconditions doesn't know what he is doing. He says in one speech Iran is not a threat and then later in the day says it is a major threat. Yet he still thinks taking all troops out of Iraq would be ok. He doesn't want to admit that Iran would go right in there and create a blood bath. The fact that we are in Iraq right now is why Iran has not invaded. The two countries are enemies, I can't believe that anyone would be as naive as to believe that if we leave before they are stable, that IRAN WOULD NOT INVADE.
