Topic: what if...

we all voted obama, just to see what would happen, like lets give him a chance

we've seen what mccain's ideas, proposals, beliefs have done, (bush) --- don't say that, that's not fair, in the other thread everyone defended bush and made him seem holy tongue

anyways let's give the democrats and the newbie obama a chance.. how about it?

Re: what if...

No. I have a lot to lose from increased capital gains, estate taxes, and taxes on investments. It would mean the difference between remaining in the upper middle class w/ money working for me, or being reduced to the working class and having to trade hours for dollars.

I hope he dies.

Re: what if...

No, Obama will make me pay more in taxes, he will do more damage to the economy then McCain will, he will push legislature through congress that discriminates against my race.  the only reason to vote for Obama is out of fear of what McCain might do in foreign affairs.

Re: what if...

Never figured the "oh nohes, taxes are the devil" thing.
Taxes are paid to the state to make the state do stuff. And those stuff are good (except your wars...) for the citizens.

But your "I only care about myself" attitudes screws it up completely.

Vote Obama... or someone else, just not that silly McCain guy. If you care ofc tongue

Justinian -  Isn't your hostility is misplaced?  Don't you mean, "I hope my parents die."?

The government could do more good to its citizens by doing less. I can't say what the optimal level of good to citizens that government involvement is, but I know that Obama goes far past the line. Right now less is better. Give me economic freedom or give me death! I would sooner vote for Bush to have a third term than surrender my economic rights. Without economic freedom life is meaningless.

Xeno,

Lol. Dark sense of humor you have.

Freelancer,

Well I'm sure he will gain a lot of enemies among very powerful people. So it's not too far fetched imo.

Re: what if...

"Without economic freedom life is meaningless."

Personally I derive meaning from life outside of economic freedom, don't get me wrong I'm all for the idea that a man should be the one to decide what he does with his money, but I wouldn't say that without economic freedom life is meaningless.  Slightly less pleasant perhaps but if that bothered me I'd have comitted suicide when I went from kindergarten to elementary school, elementary school to highschool, etc.

Re: what if...

"Taxes are paid to the state to make the state do stuff. And those stuff are good (except your wars...) for the citizens."

taxes are stolen and then squandered on the corruption in government. the whole idea of taxes is based on oppression. you think you know how people should spend their money better then they do, so you want your government to take their money by force. if you want to do good with your money, support a charity of some sort; if your cause is great enough, you wont have to force anyone to pay the money. But supporting taxes is supporting armed robbery and slavery.

Re: what if...

and no one bothered addressing my reasons for not voting for obama?

Re: what if...

Guess somebody believed Obama when he mentioned bitter white people clinging to guns and religion

We're gonna ration gasoline again because we WON'T pump what we have, taxes are gonna go up for everybody, people are going to hit the microfilm to look up "stagflation"...that's why you don't put in a sweep of Democrats.

Of course the Republicans will do the same thing and have wars too ..

Well I assure you that I'm not a Hill Billy. I do not live in the south, and I am not from some blue-collar family. And I can desire Obama dead because I can. I don't like him. He opposes my economic interests, which have real and painful consequences for me. He's also charismatic, which makes him very dangerous.

Re: what if...

lol and you still refuse to back off from it

you'd rather have someone die than loose a couple dimes and nickels

really sad...

Re: what if...

Dude the difference is I can work 40 hours and support myself under the current administration. Under Obama I would have to work 80 hours a week due to the loss of jobs and resulting drop in income, and the increase in taxes as well. And I would have to pray I could get that 80... though as I work in security maybe that would be the one booming industry as most people would be forced to steal to survive...

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Re: what if...

wasn't the last democrat like obama (bill clinton) the young not so much experienced president do so well for the country?

i might be wrong, like i've mentioned before i never was interested in politics back then

Re: what if...

he did bad for the country, however, there was a breakthrough in business technology that led to an economic boom, that he had absolutely nothing to do with, but ignorant people often credit him with. he was also an extremely racist president, he did nothing to stop massive genocides in africa, but when there was a smaller one in europe, he intervened.

ah, the leftist propaganda finally rolls out. ok, gladiator. if you're so noble and would spend acouple nickels and dimes instead of let someone die, whats the cutoff point? how much is a human life worth to you? would to pay $100? $1,000? $10,000? surely a life is worth more then $100,000, right? you're a selfish bastard for not donating every dollar you earn to save people's lives.

Re: what if...

Gladiator, you might as well just marry Obama if all you're going to talk about is Obama in the politics forum.  We don't even have to look at the title anymore - if the author is you, it's going to be about Obama.  I bet that if you were around in 2004, you would've made nothing but Kerry threads.

Skoe you're insane. Export a wildlife entertainment job to Kenya?  You know the kind of tax penalty Congress has in mind for businesses that outsource?

I wish you all would Leave off mocking Gladiator's sincerity, although I think its very  misplaced in a total newb like Obama, it's better than somebody who no longer cares what's best

Taxes can be a good thing for the government yes. Only problem is our economy is already hurting. People already can't afford to buy extra things. I know I can't. Having a hard enough time just surviving as it is. You raise taxes in our current state, our economy is done. People won't be able to afford much of anything. Let alone pay all bills.

Now let's take into account his healthcare proposal. This alone would cause taxes to skyrocket. You think we can afford that too. People don't seem to understand that taxes can be godd, but also be bad. If we reduced taxes now giving people a break, they would go out and spend more likely giving the government more money in the long run.

Re: what if...

Taxes are evil, and if they are to give universal healthcare then they are a crime against humanity.

"And I can desire Obama dead because I can. I don't like him." lol... so you desire dead to all the people who you do not like? are they evil too? is obama a terrorist?

"taxes are stolen and then squandered on the corruption in government. the whole idea of taxes is based on oppression. you think you know how people should spend their money better then they do, so you want your government to take their money by force."

i think we all know that it is true

Re: what if...

I am not one to wish death upon someone, but if a certain presidential candidate were to die, therefor diverting the terrible things that said candidate would bring upon our country, things that would completely destroy the way we live; I must say I am for the sacrafice of one for the greater good.

Re: what if...

Avogado: Taxes may be oppression and donations to social programs out of a tax free income much better, but people just aren't used to that. However a clever society would see that working towards that ideal is a good idea, though why a government would doom itself like that isn't very clear... ask again later... Anyway a good start would be to reduce spending on unnecessary things like nuclear bombs, missiles, large warships and other such aggressive ordinance. Offense is not the best defense. Then add tax breaks to those who donate to vital services, such as healthcare, education, law and order, etc.. Increase fines for unsatisfactory behaviour, which is used to fund services directly affected by such behaviour. In this way taxes could be weaned out of the system, and eventually so could the government and society would continue to function.

Devil dog: Read above and add on that universal healthcare could be possible if you stopped spending on silly things like wars in far off lands, sure the world might be a worse place, but you could have universal healthcare and not raise taxes. Add on tax credits to those who continue to have their own health insurance or in some way show they won't be a burden on the state health system and viola!

As for Clinton, he obviously deserves credit for not interfering in the technology and dot com booms, which is something really... Heads of state could learn something from his brilliance... speak elegant words, get loved by people in other countries and don't invade anyone... bomb the crap out of them if you need but don't invade unless you really have too (ie UN says go), that way very few people actually die and you don't look like a douche. That and ignore domestic issues as long as things are looking up... Don't fix what ain't broke.
