How many people do you need to have enough genetic diversity to not end up with inbreding errors? I'd assume given the limited number of people they would do a communal breeding program with the females so they could keep the largest selection of genes available. They would have to eliminate the concept of a monogamous marriage obviously and use strict breeding programs so certain people didn't breed too often with others who share relatives. "Love whoever you want, but breed for the species"

you don't need a lot of people apparantly (most of mankind's genes can be traced to a group of less than a dozen ancestors or something), given enough time evolution in general will weed out the weaker ones

Well technically we did all come from just one father and mother so i guess thats right...
I liked the past two episodes. If they had done more episodes that were halfway interesting like these maybe it wouldn't have been cancelled.
Honestly, the writers bit off more than they could chew; by trying to create the whole scenario in the first place. there's a million ways this show couldve gone and they went too far, literally. they should have stayed near the milky way and based it upon allready established premises.
I've spent more time trying to figure out what's going on with the show than should be necessary.
btw, im downloading the first episode of space: above and beyond. Don't think i've ever seen any of the series so i'll be interested to watch it

Yes i like I'm about 2/3rds of the way through the season and it's been pretty good. It doesn't look like it was a cheap show to make with all the CGI and decent variety of sets they use. Story lines are good for the most part.
Only thing that irks me is if the aliens had been watching humans so long, why attack the colonies first? Just go straight for Earth and wipe it out with no one on Earth or in space knowing you exist. Thats a pretty good first strike situation. Instead they give up the surprise and take out a newly made colony and a colony ship... Of course that would have altered the entire show by the second or third episode
Hey Sol I saw your name in the rankings in MW but wasn't sure if it was just someone else or not. I'm in MW too. And yeah, same thoughts for SGU. I think disappointing is the best word i'd choose for the series. Or boring
there was a distinct reason why they attacked the colony though, although it possibly wasn't explained fully in the first season (it's definately hinted that they were provoked somehow)
also they did come for earth almost instantly, and with good strategy that was only countered with shear luck and guts
I like that the episodes are 47minutes long. almost a full hour 
with so little time for advertising, no wonder Fox canned it New shows are around 42mins for an hour episode unless it's HBO or a station like that
Up to where i've watched they haven't explained (or i haven't noticed) the reason why they attacked. The AI's mentioned that the humans were the first ones to invade.
For the Chigs to have planets that are water rich seems odd to me. There were a couple of times where the water contacted the aliens skin and they boiled out. You'd think they would want to avoid water planets... Like the aliens from Signs who burned from water but invaded a planet of 70% water and attacked creatures who are 75% water... spit on the aliens and you kill them. \o/!
Watch farscape instead!
I did in college I just watched the Peace Keepers War. 2 part thing to end the series. always thought the guy who did john crighton did a great job in farscape (crappier job in SG-1 but meh)
