I find this game to be actually rather slow. Maybe on the next round shorten the ticks a little so it's every 30-45mins instead of an hour.

you know kadaj its been proposed lot of times but we always find the same answer.
I proprosed instead a way to make the game faster by researching speed, that's it, if we cannot reduce the tic lenght then at least allow us to increase the playing speed. We have 1 way of speeding right now, that's construction bonus, we need an adition to that: researching speed
But it seems I'm not sexy at all for the admins and this topic will be closed just bcause I posted here ![]()

we cant increase tick times w/o increasing the tick times for ALL the galaxys. The update happens at the same time for all galaxys.
Nolio presented a great idea to speed up gameplay by reducing the build times for buildings. See his other post here in Ideas.

well maybe because they actually haven't done anything in this aspect in probably a decade. so, maybe it's about time they actually got around to doing something about this.
I say we wait for Gwenydd's, Travis' and Pain's kids to play and see how they like it as it is now, before we make rash cahnges
the same arguments come around Kadaj, every time.
this game isn't meant to be fast paced, most of the people who play aren't interested in ticks occurring every 15 minutes or half hour, if they were they would go play other games that update in that fashion

I don't think speed will be enough. Another point of view: How active are you able to go?
Perhaps divide galaxies in timezones where people can't explore/attack after xx hours.

I would favour 15min ticks for the first 7 days of a round, then lengthen them to 30mins for 7 days, then 1 hour for 15 days. Then round ends. Combined with Joor's idea is perfect. The game should operate for maybe 18 hours a day. That is 6am to midnight. With three galaxies for the timezones. One would centre on CET (Europe, Middle East and Africa), one would be GMT+6 (The Americas) and the other GMT-10 (Aus, NZ, HK, Singapore, China)
Everyone would be allowed to play in all three Galaxies if they so wished. Afterall a nightworker in Sydney might find that CET or GMT+6 better suited his awake hours.
To get past the limitations of the code, all the galaxies would need to start and end simultaneously.
(It would mean a total of 504 ticks in the first 7 days, 252 ticks in the second 7 days, and 270 ticks in the final 15 days. A round therefore totalling 29 days and 1026 ticks - equiv to a 42 day round at the moment. An extra 90 ticks can be created -46 day/7 week round- by removing the 18h a day element for the final 15 days
Ideally 11 rounds a year with 4 days between rounds, leaving the game 2 days a year extra - I would suggest 2 5 day breaks to coincide with shuffles)

Nope, the server can only run one speed at a time. The speed gets changed twice during the round (all rounds being concurrent)
even that way it requires a person to change the code 3 times in a round, with the high risk of everything going to hell each time the coding is touched, or when he switchs off and on a big'n'old server, no man you dont realize we're playing on a server thats like a tank from the 1st world war
